"McCain's out-front support covers a multitude of sins, and shuts up the media."

That's why I called it a rope a dope. You don't believe this was McCain's idea. McCain silences the talk about a VP spot while McCain throws his weight behind his bread and butter, because he benefits, and President Bush gets a temporary bounce in the polls while Kerry eats crow. All of this plans designed ahead of time.

That's what I meant.

I had thought something similar, though I had not thought it planned, other than as McCain has said all along that he supported the President and would be campaigning for him.

But the other thing you mentioned, it is a compelling serendipity that Kerry and his campaign have been making all these fawning overtures to McCain and now McCain is so ardently supporting Bush. It makes McCain look really irrelevant.
