Extending a hand of bipartisan friendship, today Texas GOP Chairman Tina Benkiser issued a tongue-in-cheek endorsement of incumbent Texas Democrat Party Chairman Charles Soechting.
"Mr. Soechting is one of the Republican Party’s greatest assets," said Benkiser. "There is no doubt he will play a critical role in our November victories."
Benkiser cited several of Soechting’s accomplishments since being installed as chairman by the trial lawyers in October 2003 as the reason for her endorsement:
Spreading false rumors about the Governor and his family and refusing to apologize when caught
Refusing to apologize after his spokesman called a respected Supreme Court Justice a "Nazi"
Calling the Speaker of the Texas House a "weasel" and not apologizing
Orchestrating the primary defeat of several of his own Democrat house members in an unprecedented display of intra-party cannibalism
In general, making former Texas Democrat Party Chair Molly Beth Malcolm appear calm and rational
"Charles Soechting has done yeoman’s work for the GOP during his short tenure by showing the people of Texas how radically liberal the Democrat Party has become," said Benkiser. "He has my wholehearted endorsement."
Benkiser then led Republicans in a chant of "Go, Charles, Go! Go, Charles, Go!"
Democrats will elect a state chairman at their convention this week in Houston.
