Jr. put the provocative remark into his speech to kick start a floundering career. Before his father's death he had been relegated to dog shows and sporadic MSNBC commentary. Two venues that offered minute ratings and public visibility.

But he seized the opportunity that his father's funeral offered him, his little moment in the sun, to slap down GW. He's smart enough to know that the media (who hated his father with a burning passion the day before his death) would be slobbering all over themselves with the thought of the potential damage that Jr. might inflict on Bush with his snide remarks.

Jr.s hasn't been successful in any ,of the many, careers that he has attempted. He still has to live off his fathers accomplishments.

Chris Matthews said yesterday he was going to do an exclusive with Ron Reagan.

I said right off when I posted that Ron Reagan was taking a swipe in his eulogy at President Bush (which is his choice--I just was pointing out the facts), I said to those who said they didn't want to believe that, that I was positive Ron would be appearing soon in the media to make it plain.

I was not one bit surprised to hear Chris then announce the interview. Will Ron be coy? Or will he spell it out? I plan to watch and find out. But I don't think he's being exploited. He said what he said in order to gain attention and evidently had given his MSNBC buddies a heads up. He wanted this and he's the one exploiting his father, IMO.

More like.."his remarks were anti-Bush and therefore worthy of expensive airtime.."

Have you noticed that despite being the offspring of a good looking set of parents that Ron Prescott (as Brokejaw called him last week) received the worst features of each.

There was an excellent post last weekend...and I am a little drunk to go looking for it....about the comparisons between Ron and Dubya. Both are eldest sons of Republican Presients, both went to Yale, one dropped out, one graduated and added a Harvard MBA to boot, one became President, the other is a featured commentator on Animal Planet. It doesn't take a Phd. in psychology to figure out why Ron, Jr is bashing Bush.

You'll have to excuse me for hitting the bottle. I am a lawyer and was picked for jury duty and then empanelled for a five day trial. Closing statements were this afternoon. Deliberations start tomorrow. I plan on exploring new careers this Saturday.

Hildy--weren't you the one that figured there were "issues" for Ron Reagan regarding George W. Bush?

Larry Sabato, Scarborough Country, just criticized Ron pretty harshly, and ended analyzing him exactly as you did.

Joe just played a clip--the only one he played.

It was Ron saying he didn't "know what was wrong with these people" that they have to invoke his father to justify the war (when did they do that?! but I digress). It's "their administration", said Ron, and if they can't justify it themselves except to say Ronald Reagan would agree, then they're no Ronald Reagan.

Well, there's a taste of the tone this will take.

Reagan serves on the board of the Creative Coalition, an organization founded in 1989 by a group including Susan Sarandon and Christopher Reeve to politically mobilize entertainers and artists, generally for liberal causes.

That sound you hear is the Great Communicator spinning in his grave.
