The government of Mexico will not permit violations of the human and labor rights of Mexicans living in the United States, said Mexican President Vicente Fox Quesada, stressing that, "we will stand beside every Mexican woman and man in this country, we will defend them against the raids being carried out in the state of California." He reaffirmed his commitment to continue to support the Mexicans and Mexican Americans who live and work with dignity and productivity, because they, he said, make a great contribution to the United States economy. "They are loyal, and respectful of this society and this country that has received them." On his first working day in the United States, Mr. Fox made important announcements for the Mexican community living in various places in this country. These include the scale of investments made in Mexican consulates in the United States and reinvestment in places of origin of income from fees for the issue of consular matriculation cards or other services provided. In addition, he told Mexicans living in the United States that, "we have not reduced our expectations and our struggle to finally reach an immigration agreement beneficial to the communities of both countries and so that we -through it, in an orderly manner, in an effective manner- can drive the development of our two countries more and more." Mr. Fox acknowledged that it has still not been possible to crystallize that goal, "but I assure you that we continue to struggle every day with the same purpose and that we are trying, every day, to resolve each of the demands that you have put forward." Evidence of that, he said, is the fact that the consular matriculation card is now broadly accepted in many states and now is not only useful as an identity document, but to carry out other operations. Speaking before the Mexican community gathered in the new facilities of the Mexican consulate in this city, the federal executive announced that the governments of Mexico and the United States are working to unify criteria in the standardization of their Social Security Systems. This system, he explained, will enable a person from Mexico or from this country to make savings, a retirement and pension plan through a single account. "Working here or working there will count just the same, there will be equal access to the same rights, in health, in retirements, in pensions, in housing, and in savings". He informed that the Mexican consulate in Chicago has already opened more than 50 community plazas, associated with the local government, which provide educational services ranging from primary and secondary education through to diplomas and university degrees. He also highlighted the extension of the Three for One Program, "by way of which members or groups in the Mexican community who want to invest in their community, for every dollar they send there, another two dollars are added: one by the federal government and one by the state and municipal governments." "That saving, that investment can be used for basic infrastructure in the community, in their community; or it can be used for production projects, your own enterprises, that will have that support of two additional dollars for each dollar." At the meeting, the chief of the federal executive acknowledged that there have been budgetary shortages and that there is greater demand for this program than what is available with the budget, " but we have been growing it and by next year we are going to continue to increase this amount greatly, to be able to carry on working as a team." He announced that in the city of Chicago the services of a community liaison center will be provided, " through which we want to have a greater closeness. In that center we want to permanently offer consular protection, financial education, preventive health services, and other rights and other programs." In the morning, President Vicente Fox held a meeting with Don Michael Randel, the president of the University of Chicago, at which he highlighted this educational institution's interest in research into and the history of Mexico. He acknowledged Dr. Friedrich Katz for his research into Mexico. In his remarks he said that, "he has also followed closely the delicate process of transition that my country is undergoing today; our struggles to eliminate traces of authoritarianism; to consolidate an efficient democracy; to overcome poverty and discrimination, and to provide all Mexicans with better opportunities in health care, education, employment, justice, and well-being." President Fox's agenda also included meetings with the mayor of the city of Chicago, Richard M. Daley, with editorial advisors of various Chicago media, and with the president of Whirlpool, Jeff Fetting. President Fox and his wife, Marta Sahagún de Fox, were honored with a dinner given by members of the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce. |
I'll ask it again, one more time... who is saying it's ok to abuse anyone?
If you read the article Fox is calling mere enforcement of US immigration laws an abuse of their human rights. It is not and his agenda is obvious, to intimidate this government into backing down and doing nothing with respect to the millions who have crashed our gates. I don't care if employers are hiring them, that's not an excuse and it's time many of them were locked up for violating the law. They've been given a free pass long enough as well.
I noted you whistled right past this part of the article, and only commented on the "human rights" aspect. Similar tactics are routinely used by extreme leftist, and communist, in places like Berkeley.
LOL! I'm just getting started.
You either didn't read the article, or you are just a leftist that's lost in cyberspace.
I READ the article and I READ the posts in response to it.
I don't think one has to be a "leftist" to disagree with abusing people's human right just because they happened to enter this country illegally.
I just want to hear why people think this is OK.
Unfortunately I don't think I can depend on you to articulate a coherant argument on this issue...but perhaps you can surprise me?
I have heard about people crossing and getting arrested in Mexico buying medicines. Although, I haven't heard of it in a long time. This is just another form of kidnapping or blackmail by the Mexican thugs. National news will never carry a story like this.
And, if you mean by 'mainstream Republican', someone who will turn a blind eye to the danger of unchecked, illegal immigration, you're right, that's not me. I may be from Az., but Senator McCain is Republican in name only - and a blight on the GOP.
If a white or black American ignores Mexico's rules for immigrating to Mexico or visiting that country --- decides not to get a passport of apply for a tourist card as required by the Mexican government, does that American have the right to stay? If the Mexican government deports that American has it violated his rights? If the American is politely driven to the border to a border town and allowed to walk over the bridge back in to the USA, has that American been tortured or abused?
See 242.
You might be right. I was responding primarily to the title of the article.
Though some of the points made about giving fair benefits to those who are contributing members of society even if they entered illegally, is not unreasonable and does not hurt us as a nation IMHO.
I know exactly where I'm at and exactly what I believe. Which is very unfortunate for you Joey, I know.
I also know you would prefer me to leave rather than having to respond to my challenges to your posts. That's understandable.
Cheers.....
I cannot believe the audacity of this man. Dubya needs to put him in his place and pronto.
I won't waste *my* time either.....
Won't happen....
Here's a real interesting article in today's paper --- http://www.diario.com.mx/nota.asp?notaid=0c3690a6bca4bd6bc3dabb0b5b956059
(if you speak Spanish)
(and they aren't talking about illegals in the USA but citizens of Mexico --- living in a climate of terror)
This could only happen if all the corrupt politicians in Mexico were to receive a kickback from these businessmen. Mexico is rotten to the core and it's hard to believe at times that we have such a basketcase for a neighbor.
I noted you whistled right past this part of the article, and only commented on the "human rights" aspect. Similar tactics are routinely used by extreme leftist, and communist, in places like Berkeley.
Right. The only "tactics" we see here are yours describing anybody who dares disagree with you as "extreme leftist" or "Berkeley", "communist".
I am in fact one of the most right wing conservatives you will ever meet. I think we should seal our boarders and stop ALL illegal immigration.
BUT I am not for abusing, taking advantage of, or violating the human rights of ANYBODY, just because they entered this country illegally.
Always been like that. The difference is before the 60s and 70s, and 80s our leaders would have *never* put up with this. Can you imagine American's putting up with millions pouring into our country creating this epic chaos in the 1950s?
Can you imagine in 1940, a corrupt leader of Mexico making the statements and threats, like this one did today?
Another interesting article in today's paper (or periodico if you prefer) ---

(The ambassador from Spain in Mexico --- talking about the kidnappings of Spanish citizens in Mexico).
The problem with Vicente Fox is he is nothing but a corrupt buffoon --- he's not going to fix Mexico, that's the furthest thing on his mind.
No, I don't mean that.
I wish we could shut the borders to ALL illegal immigration.
But I know that MOST illegals come here just to improve their lives and I cannot see mistreating them and violating their human rights.
I agree. But with millions of illegals here already, it's not practical to deport them all. We couldn't afford it. And many American employers would lose big $$$ if we did.
