The Presidential race is in high gear, which means it's time for our fourth quadrennial elction event, the Family Circle Cookie Cook-Off! The 2004 candidates: Laura Bush's Oatmeal-Chocolate Chunk Cookies vs. Teresa Heinz Kerry's Pumpkin Spice Cookies. Bake up a batch of each, then cast your vote here for the cookie you'd bring to the party.

Color me skeptical, but do we really believe Teresa ever baked cookies in her life? LOL
Well I voted Republican. Though I wonder, do you have to use parchment paper on the cookie sheet to make it come out well? Nonstick spray wouldn't work? Would an insulated pan yield better results, with or without paper? I can't remember ever seeing a household-grade cookie recipe that called for papering the cookie sheet.
My nine year old looked at the pumpkin cookies picture and exclaimed, "Oh, yuck!!!!"
Note they will not announce the winner until after the election.
Chocolate beats anything, every time. Have your own contest: next party, bake a batch of chocolate brownies and a batch of blondies. I guarantee the chocolate ones are gone before the others.
Does Kerry use Ketchup in all her recipes?
Parchment is great. It keeps the pan clean & you can lift off all of the cookies at once to cool. I put the next cookies to bake on another piece of parchment and have it ready to put on the sheet as soon as I take the baked ones off.
I love pumpkin pie, but I don't like pumpkin cookies. Laura's cookie recipe really looks and sounds the best to me.
I always use the parchment paper for cookies....please try it, I think you will see the difference in your baking.
