Folks the gubmint continues to insult your intellegence, because it is so easy to see through this ploy. USPS wants to get rid of the Media rate, instead of just doing so they will waste $$$ of dollars now using extra materials, time and manpower to rip open every Media mail package, check its contents and reseal it (if it meets Media mail standards of course). Is this cheaper than "losing" money because of people who abuse Media mail by not following the standards? The Post Office would like you to believe this I suppose. The real agenda is to compel everyone to quit using it and make you buy the higher priced services.
What everyone who is upset about this should do!!
Wrap your media mail REALLY GOOD... if you put that little item in 10-12 sucessively larger boxes and use a roll of tape to seal it all up, get the picture?
IF enough people will do this USPS will drop this nonsense pretty fast.

Since 9/11 this is taken rather seriously.
The Inspection Service might X-ray the package or just move it to a field and destroy it.
They'll attempt to contact the sender first.

F* that. Ship it UPS or Fed Ex. worth a couple of extra bucks, and UPS, and FEDEx, are both faster.

I use Media Mail to ship bulk boxes of 30 CDs to my distributor. Cost is a little over $0.16 per CD. Excellent price. Snail's pace, to be sure. So far the USPS has not had a beef with me. The only contents in the box are 30 CDs. No correspondence or literature of any kind.

The USPS always reserves the right to open Media Mail. I send audio cassetes and course manuals by media mail, no problem, for a few years now. Never been asked to open it.
Media Mail can't include correspondence. I usually send the order form in a 1st class envelope seperately, or email it, or just let it slide entirely.

I saw the notice concerning this in my local PO. In big letters on the sign, posted at the counter, it said, Any postal employee can open your media mail.
What the hell???
