Except for the fact that our Constitution WISELY forbids the government "assisting" any such thing. Governments normally do such "assistance" with guns, in case you haven't noticed.

Besides, it is the inalienable right of ALL free citizens to practice religion as they see fit, or even to NOT practice at all.

Your particular beliefs are not necessarily true, and certainly are not so true as to require that ANY government force them on others.

You surely are not making the claim that our Heavenly Father is not able to give understanding and instruction outside of the Catholic Church?

"enslavement to the devil" what exactly does this mean? According to Matthew, Mark, and Luke the "devil" is who received the first instruction, when the "devil" tempted Christ by twisting scripture.

Now in Luke 4:16-31 Christ quoted Isaiah 61:2

v18 "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent ME to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

the Christ skips to Isaiah 62:18

Luke 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the LORD."


So now I guess you can explain where exactly this was transfered to a "Church". I would not want to apply my own personal interpretation to these WORDS.

Some on this thread have praised Saddam Hussein "because he was nice to Christians", which is a mixture of naievete and predjudice I don't even wish to consider the implications of.

This is not Catholicism or even Christianity...it is fanatical extremism of the sort that has killed millions down through history regardless of which religion's mask it wore.

This kind of thing gets to me. I grew up in a family of Italian/German origins in which, for a variety of reasons (which I hope to be able to put proper words to someday, and post here), anti-Semitism or religious bigotry were NOT tolerated. I, and my cousins were taught at our (German) grnadmother's knee that the Jewish folk were our friends, and that they were no different from any OTHER Americans. The lesson was always delivered in an atmosphere of true patriotism and love of this country, albiet in her beautiful accent, a mix of German and Italian (she had been married to my Italian-born grandfather so long that she had picked up a bit of HIS accent, as he did hers).

Once while I was an early teen, I asked my mother why anyone would want to deny the Holocaust occurred. Without missing a beat, this Catholic lady said, "because they don't want anyone to say, 'Never Again'".

This misbegotten polishing of the turd that is the Inquisition, to me, brushes far too close to those same evil sentiments.

You’ve good reason to be outraged. On one of these threads you made an excellent point, that there’s a risk that a causal reader sees the posts of theocratic fascists wrapped in a false flag of “Christian America” and “conservatism”, and falsely presumes this is the view of the Republican party. It reinforces a stereotype of bigotry that the party hasn’t earned, but which persists. The concept of saving the “heretics” being defended here differs in no way from the concept of “saving” the unbelievers and uniting the world through jihad.

Hopefully the “Revising the Inquisition” threads will soon make their way to the chat and Religion forums. Out of sight, out of mind, and out of the political arena.
