"the strategic implications of having our forces and ultimately a friendly country nestled right there...sandwiched between Iran and Syria are going to become more and more apparent"
Unless Americans elect another Jimmy Carter, I believe there will be an American "Guantanamo like" presence in Iraq for years if not centuries to come. The difference being an air base rather than a naval base.
You're right. Sounds more like one of those Middle Eastern bachelor parties.
I remember we heard news of Qatari-Iranian clashes in the Persian gulf a few days ago. And UAE Naval boats engaged an Iranian vessel too.
Iran knows that a naval blockade (economic sanctions) is heading their way if they don't come clean about their nuclear program. My guess is they're attempting to secure some overland routes into and out of their country so they don't suffer as much over the blockade. This may be the first of many moves to border areas by Iran.
A whole four battalions?
That couldn't get through airpower, let alone the troops we have in place. And since we aren't pulling out....I wonder what this story is really about.
I don't remember.
Haven't studied Iranian OB since the hostage period.
In the months between the election of President Reagan
and his swearing in lots of OB prep of the battlefield was being done.
I'll let you know if I can find some open source stuff.
And they still have a big chunk of Saddam's as well! :)
Nah - couldn't have been a bachelor party over there. There weren't any goats.
Absolutely true. Journalists are generally clueless.
gay homeless wedding?
Well that would do the job, wouldn't it? The CIA whips some mad mullah into a frenzy, they take a swing at us in Iraq, and we take them out. The perfect provocation. We could actually declare war. None of this U.N. bullshine.
Heard an interesting theory this morning on talk radio. You wonder what all those carriers could be used for? How about blockading The Straits of Hormuz to Iranian shipping. Their economy would fold in three weeks. It would effectively cut off their oil revenue.
I'm thinking maybe more "transgendered", considering their reported proclivity to same sex activity.
"Didn't someone once say that about Saddam's air power right before the first Gulf War?"
No, I don't think so.
You're right again, goats are the one indispensible for a good ME bachelor party. Well, I'm fresh out of guesses.
Hey, that's not true! Don't forget about the vaunted Iraqi air force planes that were sent there during the first Gulf War. But wait, our beloved lefties said that Hussein's regime would never cooperate with hard-core islamicists because he was secular. Hmmm, how does this add up?
Iranian troops are massing at the border & when they cross we SMACK 'EM. or is that ZOT? Anyway, they will become desert fly food.
If Iraq wants the U.S. to leave, what happens? Tin-foil: It's a long planned plot...the Iranians are going to come & spring their hero, Saddam Hussein, from prison when he returns to Iraq for trial.
