I just installed Red Hat 9.0 AS 3 on an SMP machine for personal desktop use. I had installed RH 6.0 a while back but reverted to Win 2K when I had problems with application availability. But the new RH comes with enough bundled apps to keep most desktop users VERY happy (open office is an excellent office/productivity package). Unfortunately you do need to hunt around on the INTERNET for Linux compatible DVD, MPEG-2 and MP3 software but thats a small price to pay for an incredibly stable and efficient OS! KDE and Gnome offer some pretty amazing customizable features too. I've embraced the penguin!

Unfortunately you do need to hunt around on the INTERNET for Linux compatible DVD, MPEG-2 and MP3 software Mainly because that stuff is pirateware, isn't it? If not Red Hat would be carrying it in their complete distribution of GNU/Linux, don't you think?
