Did they just slide off the existing concrete slab and slide it back? I guess I was expecting that they would excavate through it, but I don't see any fresh concrete. Or is the whole thing fresh concrete?

According to AP:

"The mahogany casket was sealed within a bronze-lined vault, seven feet underground inside the crypt, which also includes space for Mrs. Reagan's final resting place. Workers covered the crypt with earth and a concrete pathway."

I'm not sure HOW the actual burial took place, but local news has it occurring around 3-3:30 a.m. Saturday.

A long time...

Wolfstar, thanks for the thread. Wouldn't it be GREAT if the Library drew as many if not more than Disneyland this summer? I know....I know.....

Responding to your #31, Dog Gone, I don't know the answer for certain. But I believe the slab over the crypt is permanent and was not moved. Unless I am mistaken, the entrance to the crypt is somewhere under the walkway surrounding the gravesite. It may not be precisely this way, but visualize it as an underground room with stairs or a ramp leading up to wherever the access point is. The room is under the huge slab, but the access point is not. It's easy enough to remove part of the concrete walkway for the actual burial, then to replace it and lay fresh sod if any grass was disturbed. If this not the answer, then the only other one is that the round slab is capable of being slid aside either hydraulically or in some other way.
