Is shooting sideways (handle of pistol horizontal) some kind of hip way of firing? Saw some brothers holding that way in the movie "Ladykillers" recently. Can you please give me a clue?

It makes as much sense as wearing pants below-the-butt that they have to hold onto with one hand to shoot sideways, run from the cops, or anything else.
