The way the middle east was divvied up after WWII may not have been an ideal solution, but it may have been as good as could be had. Others that followed events in that part of the world more closely would have a better idea probably; I dunno.
My take, for now anyway, the radical Mooselims are trying their damndest to start WWIII. The rest of their group are opportunists, sitting back, biding their time, waiting to see if their "movement" will gather a head of steam. Lord help us if it does.

You are correct in that assessment, but we gotta separate the radicals from the huge majority of Muslims who love life. Back during the Cold War, I remember hearing that the way we would overcome our differences with the Soviets would be when the Soviet parents loved their children more than they loved Communism. When I thought about how the Soviet leadership lusted fer world domination, I had my doubts. And it turned out, the people in the Soviet Union didn't really like Communism all that much, and threw out the Politboro as soon as it became safe to do so. So their love for their children's future overcame all the brainwashing the Communists had put them through, and they demanded to elect their leaders.
We've all heard about the Muslim parents who celebrate when their kids blow themselves up with a bunch of Jewish children, and it begs the question, do Muslims love Allah so much more than their children that they would willingly sacrifice their kids fer "The Cause"? I think that the Muslim commonfolk will see life improve when they are granted the rights of self-determination, and the futures of their children will improve, and it won't seem quite so heroic to sacrifice you or yer kid's life in a Holy War.
Increasingly, we will win over the hearts and the minds of overwhelming majorities of the Muslim population...then the zealots will be recognized as a bunch of power-crazed nutcases, not heroes.

BTW...I did read where more Muslims trust Osama than Bush...we gotta long way to go...LOL!!
