The greatest threat to people in the 20th century was their own governments. E.J.Rummel, in "Death By Government" notes that Democide accounted for nearly 180 million deaths. Criminals aren't the only ones who prefer unarmed victims.
Have a nice weekend Lando.

Thanks Slim....you as well. I don't mean to wish my life away, but I'm kinda glad this one is in the rearview mirror!

One of the biggest frauds committed by the Brady Campaign (formerly Handgun Control Inc.) happened during their campaign against the "Gun Show Loophole." They put out a statistic that X% of vendors at gun shows do not have a firearms license. I can not remember the number at this time.
It was revealed that to arrive at this number they included FOOD vendors, clothing and accessory vendors, collectible vendors, and others who were NOT selling firearms. None of these vendors, because of the product they were selling needed a firearms license. Yet the Brady Campaign included them to arrive at their X% of vendors at guns shows are unlicensed.

good article. I also read a while ago either in First Freedom or American Rifleman about a guy in England who actually spent more time in jail than the thugs who robbed him because he brandished a firearm to protect himself. He also had the one robber sue for mental damage and the courts gave in...

Gun control as a means of lowering crime is as sensible an approach as strip-searching old ladies waiting to board a plane to lower terrorism attacks.

Thanks for the post, excellent article. I don't have the numbers at hand but I'm sure statistics for Australia would be similar. England has done their silly, but dangerous IMO, anti-gun experiment long enough now. Why don't they repeal the asinine law, let the citizens re-arm and watch the crime rates drop.
I guess I've always been a dreamer.

The numbers do not add up and do not state anything about crime rates. Furthermore the numbers have no connection with firearms, they might involve knives etc.

In England it is actually ILLEGAL to defend yourself and property from a criminal. An elderly couple put up barbwire ontop of their fence to keep out criminals after several burglaries. They were forced to take it down after it was determined the barbwire could cause harm to a CRIMINAL attempting to gain access to their property!
On my last trip to London (8/2001) I noticed that a lot of concrete fences around homes and apartment buildings had broken glass embedded in the cement.
