We're still cleaning up the mess left behind by that selfish 60s generation.
Yes, but remember that some of us were appalled by our peers, and never did agree with them on anything. The trouble is that they yelled louder and got the press coverage. Those of us who supported our military, who stayed away from sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll, who didn't run to Haight, join communes, or eschew the values that have stood the test of time were pretty much ignored.
The pressure went on into the 70s, when we were told we were fools to remain home with our children, and trust our husbands. Some of these husbands never bought the "playboy" magazine, and were faithful husbands and fathers.
So, I suggest the mess was created by the media, who chose to focus on the aberrant, celebrate the mindless rebels. In my opinion, the media is the enemy of all that is good, true, just, and decent.
Yet we still are unable to challenge them for the garbage they promote and the havok they try to wreak. All in the name of "free speech"....
I support free speech, thoughtful questioning, reasoned ideas, justified criticism based on historically tested values. Do we get much of that, overall? I do not think so. And noisy disorder, no matter how senseless, still gets the microphone.
