Blast from the past. That July meteor sighting on the east coast you referred to was from July of 2001 and the story broke right here on FR by a Freeper! I was following that thread from the moment the Freeper posted it and many of us were waiting for the media to report it, which they did, finally. Very exciting to know that a meteor was sighted and a Freeper beat all the media to it!

In early September of 2001 -- only 2 months or so later from the July meteor and just days before 911 -- another meteor was sighted, again up and down the east coast. All the threads are archived here on FR.
