Yesterday at the gate:
St. Peter: "Okay, I want you to move those purple mountains within sight of the gate, and get me some amber waves of grain right over here. And a Georgia landscape over there."
Junior angel: "Why all the work, boss?"
St. Peter: "Ray could make other people see those things. Now, it's his turn."
Thanks for the old sweet songs, Mr. Charles!

He sorta reminds me of Rev Gary Davis a little, albeit not as coarse. I think their voices sound similar in a way. Or else I am nuts. They even look kinda similar.

Funny joke, not offensive :
Ray's not only blind, he's deaf:
Hit the road Jack,
and dontcha come back, no more, no more, no more, no more
Hit the road, Jack, and dontcha come back no more.
What you say?

At Ronald Reagan's first inauguration, the first lady wore a silver gown and Ray Charles sang "God Bless America."

"His rendition of "America the Beatiful" is an American treasure."
His version made my spine tingle, no matter how often I heard it. I think Ray and Sam Cooke were the two greatest [male] soul singers I ever heard

Ray Charles, a great musician. He recorded one, or maybe two, country music albums, and they were great.
When I took piano lessons as a kid, my teacher would get upset, for instead of learning those boring scales, I would spend hours with my Sears record changer on the piano stool with me, and a 45 RPM of "What'd I Say", trying to learn the piano part...finally did, but it took a while.
Now, Ray can see, again.

I'm listening to Ray Charles sing "America the Beautiful" On Congolese television in a town which government troops have just liberated from renegade soldiers. Nothing for surreal than that. Nothing more comforting. RIP Ray.

He had a genuine modesty, an inner delight that always shone through, and a helluva lot of talent.
God bless you and Godspeed Ray Charles.

We lost another great American within a week. Ray Charles was the best R&B musician of all times.

I agree. It would be nice if they played Ray Charles rendition of "America the Beautiful" at the Reagan funeral tomorrow at the National Cathedral.
