Can't say how I knew, but I knew you were there.
Knew you'd give me (& everyone else) the chance to live the experience, through you & your eyes.
Just knew it.
You didn't disappoint, joanie.
Thank you.
"I have not enjoyed so much uplifting, 'kindred spirit, meaningful political conversations in recent memory."
No less than a Devine, renewing experience I would have to say.
Proving once again the positive effect that man had on so many people, even in death.
That kind of man never dies, joanie.
Ronald Reagan will never be further than a thought away.
"And, despite the physical closeness, the heat, and the security concerns, the crowd was also permeated with a decency and honesty that made one feel at home and completely relaxed."
Compare your above account with what you related a week or so ago, when last in DC.
...truly remarkable.

You are so right! Other than the poignant farewell which touched so deeply, that is what struck me right between the eyes as well.
When I was in DC only a week or so ago, I was literally overwhelmed with the depressing, battle zone atmosphere there and the inhuman, resigned, oppressed/depressed, almost robotic actions/interactions I witnessed.
Yesterday, although there were certainly no fewer security precautions (the security precautions were omnipresent), the atmosphere was entirely different. It was human; it was uplifting; it was permeated with a feeling of brotherhood and even the security and police powers that be were a part of that positive, uplifting mindset. They were not at all overbearing. They couldnt do enough to make the crowds comfortable and provide (as) easy (as possible) access. They were even almost apologetic for the inconveniences that the security precautions (and even the weather) caused.
It was as if I were in an entirely different place than I had visited just one week earlier.
Yet another example of Reagan magic, as extended to, and by, those who will always appreciate his greatness?
I would imagine that, once the funeral is over and his body is returned to California, Washington DC and environs will slowly revert to business as usual.
