Statements made by Scott Peterson to relatives of his missing wife, Laci, were so inconsistent, one family member testified on Wednesday, that he secretly followed Mr. Peterson to a shopping mall and a golf course to see if something was amiss.

If Peterson is guilty most likely the murder wasn't premeditated but happened spontaneously by the fact his stories weren't straight immediately following her disappearance. If it was all planned out ahead of time he would have known exactly what to say.

What about the fact Scott had researched the directions of tides and currents in the bay? That indicates preplanning and premeditation.
