Thanks, Doodlelady, for pinging me to this thread. I knew I was right the other day about that grudging SAG statement, even though I tried to be gracious to a few respondents who disagreed with me.

Modern Hollywood has ignored Ronald Reagan for years. True, during his presidency, when many of his Hollywood pals from the 1930's and 1940's were still alive, it wasn't as obvious. But I noticed, because...well, because it's in me to notice such details.

Ordinarily, I don't give a flying fig what Hollywood's denizens do. But I enjoy both current events and history, read a lot, so I understand this: The true underlying issue SAG has with RWR is not so much his conservatism as his fight against communism. I got a lot of insight into Leftist group think from books by former Leftists, like David Horowitz' "Radical Son."

The Hollywood Left never forgot nor forgave entertainment industry figures who opposed them back in the late 1940's and into the 1950's. It's been over 50 years, yet today's Hollywood Left still whines about blacklists and McCarthyism, even though history has proven the anti-Communists right.

With the outpouring of genuine love for RWR from the American people that we are all witnessing now, Hollywood may try to, figuratively speaking, cash in by now reclaiming him as one of their own. But the many true, hardcore Leftists who populate that industry will never truly mean it.
