Anyone hear anything about Rush and Marta? Wasn't it around
Wednesday that he said something about not being in a very good mood?

There's a thread on FR from Friday that they are divorcing. I think his bad mood was because he had a heads up that Reagan's condition was worsening.

Don't know if Michael spent more time or was just vocal about it. We don't hear much from Ron or Patti.

I love Michael - hope he fares well. He seems to be gutsy and has his moral grounding.

It tells you a lot about Ron, Jr. that he hates Bush. If he cannot see what we all see in George Bush, then he probably cannot really see what we all see in his father either - because they are the same things.

I agree with you about Ron. He and Patti seemed to be deliberately shutting Michael out, during the proceedings last night, until at the last moment Ron allowed Michael to come near Nancy at the casket. I was surprised Ron finally let go of his "spot."

How did you interpret Ron's remark, about his believing that what his father did as president was NOT a magnate? I almost wondered if it was possibly a veiled hit against President Bush '43, because there have been so many references to his spirituality as well.

I'm a little confused about that remark.

Maybe it was a veiled stab at Bush (can't imagine being that petty at your father's funeral),

Maybe it was a stab at Michael and his comments on TV about hoping Patti and Ron become Christians so that they could join their father,

Or maybe it was a comeback stating that we have a responsibility not a mandate to accept Christianity to get eternal life.

I don't know - as I said, I'm confused - slipped right over me.

I have a prayer request; if you feel moved, would you please pray for my dear friend Anita, and her daughter Michelle? Michelle is 21 years old, diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease several years ago. Went thru chemo and radiation and they thought they had beat it, but it recently showed up again, and has spread to her lungs.

Saw Anita for a minute on the street last week and she couldn't even talk about it, she was so sad, and my MIL reports that she was taken by ambulance to Omaha yesterday extremely ill from affects of the radiation. Prognosis sounds very bad.

The hardest part is that Anita has not been saved and does not believe in God (she's had a very tough life--divorced from an abusive alcoholic husb., her own breast cancer several years ago, etc., says "how can I believe in a God who would let this happen?"). I don't know about Michelle, but with her mom's attitude don't think she's probably saved either.

Please, pray for Michelle to be saved and Anita to somehow be brought to God thru this horrible ordeal.

Thank you.

Oops - I meant mandate, not magnate. I guess I took a chance that you might have been as focused (probably overly, in my case) as I was on Ron's speech, considering that you had been discussing him beforehand. I'm sorry if I was unclear and confusing.

His emphasis on the word "mandate" threw me, and I couldn't figure out what point he was trying to make. I probably read way more into it than was really there, and yes, it would have been petty for him to have made a political statement. I just did not have a good feeling about the man, prior to his speaking.

Sorry for reaching an unfair conclusion here..

...Sorry for reaching an unfair conclusion here..

That was not an unfair conclusion - I was wondering the same thing. Yet, I did not really hear what he said and that was why I was so confused. I would like to read the transcript of it.

If he did slam the President - what makes him think that a President has to hide his religious belief? Is Ron the religious freedom gate keeper? President Bush has as much right to express his religious freedom as Ron does to chastise people about expressing theirs.

In fact, I would have liked to have known that President Reagan had really firm religious beliefs similar to mine without having to wait 10 years for him to die. I always thought he did not have strong beliefs other than just the casual mention of God.

Ron should be careful - he does not realize what he shows to the world as to where he stands with God when he makes such comments. Amazing - with a father like that and Ron does not believe in religion or is not a Christian? What is wrong with him?

Looks like those two kids had a big, big dose of selfishness all their life and "what's in for me" syndrome.
I cannot imagine a daughter being as cruel to her parents with her book as Patti was. A father that never knowingly hurt anyone and she treated him like that? She sure did not inherit his moral fiber.

Your reply was very insightful. I would like to read a transcript of Ron's speech, too, because I really did feel as though he was preaching to us, or to someone, as he spoke. I felt he was arrogant and condescending, for a grieving son, and even a little removed from the proceedings. Did he ever once become emotional?

After watching Michael, both throughout the entire few days and after his speech, my husband, fighting back tears, said, "I'd rather have one son like Michael who is APPRECIATIVE, than two real children like Patti and Ron."

I think we're on the same page here, after all!

May it be thy will, O Lord our God, speedily to send a perfect healing from heaven, a healing of soul and body unto Michelle who is sick, and may Anita be still and listen and open her heart to hear your voice and be comforted.

I just found a thread which refers to Ron Jr's use of the word "mandate" in his speech. Some freepers felt it may have been a slam on Bush.

Praying for your dear friend Anita and her daughter Michelle. Prayers for you, too, homemom, as you continue to provide support and to be a shining example for them.
