WASHINGTON - Congress honored President Reagan on Wednesday with a pair of commemorative resolutions approved before his body arrived from California to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda.
"America was blessed to have such a president and now he will enter the history books as one of our greatest," said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.
The Senate voted 98-0 for a resolution documenting Reagan's achievements from birth through Hollywood to the White House.
"Ronald Wilson Reagan father, husband, actor and dedicated public servant restored the pride, optimism and strength of the United States and earned the deep respect and affection of his fellow citizens," the resolution said.
The House passed its own resolution of mourning and remembrance, which said Reagan "reminded his countrymen of the nation's calling in world history" and "championed freedom and democracy throughout the world." The vote was 375-0.
"President Reagan helped raise individuals up and helped tear down the Berlin Wall. He inspired us and was inspired by us," said Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo.
could it be the Senator from Massachusetts?
hanoi john????????
What? No Democrat FILIBUSTER...???!!!
OK, two no shows in the Senate. Kerry is campaigning and we know he is not at work, thus living off the kindness of strangers and his wife. One other absentee, that is not an issue.
But, 60 non votes in the House? I would be curious to know how many were actually not there vs. how many were there and refused to vote. I suspect that many simply refused to honor him.
The dems have absolutely no class.
Baucus is in the hospital (heart problems). Kerry doesn't have an excuse, nor does he have a heart.

Actually it was 80 non votes. Of those, 27 were Republican, 1 was independent, the rest were Democrats.
One of the Democrats, Hilda L. Solis said this:
"Mr. Speaker, during rollcall vote
No. 229 on the Bereavement resolution I was
unavoidably detained. Had I been present, I
would have voted yea."
What about the 27 republicans who didnt bother to show up for a vote in the house.
I don't think by any means it was to snub the Gipper.
Well done... well done indeed.
I wonder ... is ole bill fantasizing that the country will feel this way towards him when he finally dies, probably of a drug overdose or an STD?
Kerry suspended campaigning this week to honor Reagan. He has no excuse not to be present at a Senate vote.
Really? Says who.........Kerry? He may have canceled some public appearances, but believe me, he is working on his campaign.
to honor Reagan.
Correction, if I may: To put on a public show that he is pretending to honor Reagan.
He has no excuse not to be present at a Senate vote.
Any excuse to keep him from voting in the Senate, has my full support (except a promotion).
I should have put sarcasm tags on the whole post. It sounded sarcastic when I thought it but didn't come out quite so sarcastic in print.
Thanks. Take care.
