General Polk died about 1 mile from my house here in Kennesaw, GA.
Read Shelby Foote's description of the death of Bishop Polk. Grisly and graphic, Polk was run through left arm to right arm with a shell from a Parrot Rifle (probably a 12 pounder). Generals Joe Johnston and William Hardee were just a few feet away from Polk when he was hit, the three of them having just been together observing Sherman's positions.
