An explosion today that occurred in Cologne, Germany's fourth-largest city, was probably caused by a bomb, a police spokeswoman said.

The bomb exploded outside a three-story house located in a street where the majority of inhabitants are Turkish, German television channel N-TV said, citing unidentified people at the site of the explosion. The bomb consisted of a device filled with more than 1,000 nails and injured at least 17 people, several of them severely, N-TV said.

I was in Köln a couple of years ago. The city has ancheint roots but it's been rebuilt in the 60 years since the allied bombing destroyed it.

Most people there were nice. But I was conversing with a cab driver who hates Americans and the British for what we did to his city.

I remember at the time, wishing that I knew how to say waaaaaaaaaa in Deutsch.

You should have told him there are people in London who feel the same way about Germans.

But wait a minute... Germany's resolute stand against killing terrorists, and subsequent alliance with France toward that end, should have brought them immunity from terrorists, no?

I guess Deutschland missed a "protection payment" somewhere along the road. I'm sure the bomb will help get things back on track.

Gee, if Hitler hadn't started the war, then maybe there would be nothing for them to complain about...

Instead, Hitler started the war, and Sir Arthur Harris, among others, had to finish it. I think "Bomber" Harris has gotten a bad rap over the years.

Turks, except for some of the Kurdish separatists, haven't been associated with terrorism for the most part. It's possible that these people were the targets of the bomb, not its creators.

Could be a WW-II dud.

Allied bombing of Germany, especially cities on the North Sea, was far worse than anything the Germans ever did to England. The Germans were limited by means, not intentions. If Hitler could have, he would have leveled every city in every allied country.

Luftwaffe raids on London were pinpricks compared to the devastion visited on Germany.

Yep. The main target of the skinheads and Neo-Nazis in Germany is the large Turkish population.
