De Gaulle also went to Eisenhower's funeral.

Quite suprising since their comrade Jacques Effen Kerry had no problem showing his respects, if you can call a blatant photo op "respect".
"Do you know who I am? I am Jacques Effen Kerry, and only I can step over le blue rope whilst le little people must remain behind le blue rope!! Quick, take le picture!"

There's an appropriate French insult to describe Monsieur Chirac: "Il pete plus haut que son cul." (He farts higher that his ass. Meaning, he's standing there with his ass stuck out back = he thinks higher of himself than he's worth.) (Accent egu on the "pete" pronounced "pet".)

She's too frail to stand and speak at length after travelling, but was able to deliver a eulogy in a studio near her English home.

Appears that Chirac still has not removed the bug that crawled up his arse a year and a half ago. He really should get that looked at. But what do I know, I'm only an American citizen.

French behavior is entirely explicable once you understand that the government has decided to align the country politically with the arabs. Try viewing the french through that political spectrum and their actions become transparent and entirely predictable, albeit still despicable and utterly shortsighted. Cozying up to scorpions is always a bad idea.
To: kattracks
Just when they were about to win us over with their complete-with-drooling-and-fawning capitulation in the UN, they pull this. I guess this is to show the "French street" where his heart really is.

I know better, but for an instance the thought (wish?) flitted through my mind that Chirac was disinvited.

Sorry, to hear about your troubles. I hope things look up for you. In any case, it is great to have you back. Also, our prayers for Lady Thatcher.

His loss. I suspect that Chirac would gain more from being seen on that list of luminaries than its other members would from being seen with him.
To: BibChr
THey determined that Lady Thatcher's health was not good enough for the strain of actually speaking at the ceremony.
She taped her Eulogy for President Reagan some time ago in anticipation of this day.

I don't think Chirac would have not been invited. Mrs. Reagan is far too elegant to have committed such an error in manners. Thus Chirac is being rude on his own.
