I think the prosecution, for one thing, just wants to show that Scott was lying b/c Scott is on record as having said he left the house at 9:30.
So, first, his defense says he did see the brief mention of meringue on the Martha show on Dec. 24. That mention was made at 9:40. So he couldn't have seen it AND have left the house at 9:30. So... he has lied.
Second, the neighbor saw his truck still at the house at 9:39. But Scott is on record as saying he left the house at 9:30. So... he has lied.
To lie is to have something to hide. The jury is left to infer WHAT he had to hide.
Finally, the fact that the cell tower which serves his HOME has a record of a call made by him at 10:08 on the 24th, tells us that he had not left home very much b/f 10:08. That's a third thing that shows he lied when he said he left home at 9:30 on the 24th.
