Oh yeah, and Chafee too.
Don't believe that it is an accident that it works this way. There are such committees now - called lobbysts. That is what our local group does - all volunteer and at the state level. We have a guy who lives like a cockroach so he can devote his time to this and get the word out
Another mission of the oversight committee would be oversight of government abuses and illegal activity such as was used at Waco and Ruby Ridge. They would have the duty of holding law enforcement agents responsible for their actions when the "good ol' boys" network protects wrong doers in these positions.
You aren't going to get anywhere with this one. Law enforcement is (wrongly) placed on a pedestal with an automatic do no wrong card in this country. If you criticize law enforcement even on this allegedly conservative forum, the jackboot licking copsuckers show up to flame you. The last thing law enforcement wants is to follow the rules that they inflict on the rest of us - Two classes of citizen, them and us. They don't have to fill out a crapload of paperwork to get automatic weapons to intimidate the rest of us. Unfortunately they get away with it due to the attitudes of state worshiping "the police can do no wrong" jackasses with which the country (and fr) abounds.
Just as an aside the G8 summit (giant yawn for that - central planners getting together to have a great time at someone else's expense and further their delusions that they know how to direct the rest of us) is here in GA this week and they managed to get and additional 20,000 law enforcement ocifers just from Ga the immediate surrounds to protect the government big shots. It's depressing to realize that our tax dollars are paying so many useless parasites. I haven't noticed the crime being any lower that when I was growing up (a long time ago) in spite of having about ten times as many armed bureaucrats going around doing whatever it is that they do.
In fact I post a lot less here than I used to since this forum has become a mostly "I love George Bush he can do no wrong no matter what he does" sort of place. As anyone who can stomach reading the nauseating pap on the day in the life of ... thread can attest. FR says it's supposed to further conservatism, but Bush isn't a conservative - he's a moderate at best - anti-gun big spend is not conservative.
It is indeed discouraging. Here in California, the legislature is constantly introducing and passing more and more onerous anti-gun legislation. I am on an alert list, and faithly fax the committees and representatives about each bill, and my opposition. I forward the alerts to gun owners that I know. I am always disappointed by their response. Most of them can't even be bothered to pick up the phone and call Sacramento, or send an email, let alone write a letter. I am appalled by the apathy.
I usually use my computer to fax a letter to each and every committee member where a bill is currently being considered. With a fax, someone has to physically handle a piece of paper. An email is too easily ignored. They can ignore my fax, also, but at least someone has to deal with an actual hard copy.
Our enemies and economic competitors are lining up to help.
There are still thousands of terrorists looking for openings and preying on weak characters in our own midst. They will be able to get more attempts like that of the "shoe bomber" and some will be successful.
At the same time, nations like China are improving their productivity at a dramatic rate. Economic competition is going to cause pain nationwide similar to that which Kalifornia has been feeling. Those Americans who are dependent upon the socialist net in the US are going to find the future very difficult. The US cannot continue the tax rates and government spending we have now and still be competitive world-wide.
Just as jobs were fleeing Kalifornia and the state was teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, the US can face the same prospects. Easing monetary policy can only go so far in making up for poor national productivity.
When people in the inner-cities are forced to work for what little they have, they will develop an entirely different attitude towards those who would deprive them of it.
I have received at least a dozen calls from Republican groups of various kinds. Each time I tell them to get back to me on September 15 and I tell them why. If the AWB is dead, I will send a little bit. Otherwise, don't bother to call anymore.
Ain't gonna happen. Take Atlanta for example. Population about 400k (inside city limits) about the same size as DC. Atlanta has about twice as many city "workers" (Well people on the payroll anyway) as DC. The Atlanta city government is nothing but an affirmative action welfare program. The police chief Beverly Harvard, (BF ethnically speaking) was the former public safety commisar's chauffeur. Really qualified her for the job. Shirley Franklin's (mayor/mare) family gets their living from juicy plum positions at the Atlanta airport.
So you can attach any ammendment to any bill? Have our side attach any ammendments to this bill to make it look like S1805 which ended up being soundly defeated. Play their own game with them.
I'm not sure it's apathy. I think that freedom isn't as important to them. Bill of Rights - who cares? "If you haven't done anything wrong you don't have anything to worry about." "The police will protect you." etc. The new values are: who is j-lo going to marry next month. What sort of new "tat" should I get. and similar such rubbish. Government education has been very successful in creating good little subjects who don't understand and don't want to question the cultural changes going on around them.
Boortz is talking to Shirley live on his WSB programs right now.
You mean the rest of the world is going to continue to buy over-priced American goods despite the growing value provided by the Chinese and others? The rest of the world is going to subsidize inefficienty in Georgia?
The more that Americans adopt the economic practices of Mexico, the more our lives will begin to be similar to the average Mexican citizen.
Want work? Migrate to a productive country.
Want protection from criminals? Pay the bribe.
Want high quality medical care? Get real.
Want a decent education? What for?
Although it only takes 40 votes, in the Senate, to sustain a filibuster, I don't think the Senate R's have the cajones for that, especially not on this issue. However they also have to get that same majority in the House, which is not likely, a vote on the bill in the House isn't even very likely.
Good points. I think also that comfort has a lot to do with it. We're well-fed, lots of sports on our big-screen HDTV's (OK, I don't have one, but many people do), satellite TV with a gazillion channels, nice cars, nice homes, plenty of beer and chips... Why worry about a few infringements? Nothing to hide, not to worry, etc.
"When this AW ban passes, I am through with all things political and will never vote again."
Same here. This is ridiculous. I'll have had it. I probably won't even bother to vote again.
You best guess, what's the odds of this thing passing?
Oh, crap.
Is there no value in letting these people know that they face consequences for voting for this and signing it into law? Can I no longer express an opinion and let others know that this is line in the sand?
When should we let them know? After it passes?
You missed my point. As long as there is a productive class in the USA, the government will be there with their guns to their collective heads and the government's hands in the collective pockets of the productive class. Lazy non-working poor? (I don't buy this hard working poor crap) Not a problem, just raise the taxes on the ones who do work for a living. There will always be those willing to bust their buns to get ahead, and the government will be there to plunder them - distribute a little of the loot to buy votes and keep the rest for itself.
I'm at work and can't listen. However, Boortz likes to sound tough, but he crumples like a wet kleenex when confronted by big time liberals. He practically wet himself kissing up to Cynthia Tucker in their "debate" on gun control. They both work for the fanatically anti-gun Cox communications, so Boortz isn't going to go too far out on a limb when his salary is at stake.
Yep the slowly boiled frog is just about done.
What Social Security pie? The bastards have been spending the non-existent Trust fund for years. It'll be bankrupt by 2016 remember? If that's how the government bought you off, then you might as well fight!
