State GOP honors Reagan -
Party headquarters will bear his name
CHARLESTON The West Virginia Republican Party will pay tribute to the legacy of Ronald Reagan by naming its headquarters in his honor, Chairman Kris Warner announced today.
Party headquarters, located at 5019 MacCorkle Ave. SW in South Charleston, will bear the name, The Ronald Reagan Building Headquarters of the West Virginia Republican Party. An official unveiling ceremony will be held Thursday.
Ronald Reagans legacy is firm and will be honored throughout history, said Warner. He is a revered figure among all Americans, but especially within the Republican Party. The beliefs and positions of most of our candidates, officeholders and grassroots activists are rooted in the principles of government that Ronald Reagan stood for.
Warner said all Republicans, Democrats and independent voters who admired President Reagan are invited to the dedication ceremony..
Hopefully, other institutions and organizations around West Virginia will honor President Reagan in similar fashion as time goes by, said Warner. Clearly, he will be remembered as one of the greatest presidents of the 20th century, and most likely as one of the greatest presidents ever.
The party moved into its new headquarters in March of 2003. The headquarters had not previously been officially named.
Dedication ceremonies will take place 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at party headquarters in South Charleston.
What a grand idea! Considering Byrd's ego and the places named after Robert C. Byrd, courtesy of his flamboyancy, listed below are the sites throughout WV carrying the KKK member's name:
The Robert C. Byrd Highway; the Robert C. Byrd Locks and Dam; the Robert C. Byrd Institute; the Robert C. Byrd Life Long Learning Center; the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program; the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope; the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing; the Robert C. Byrd Federal Courthouse; the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center; the Robert C. Byrd Academic and Technology Center; the Robert C. Byrd United Technical Center; the Robert C. Byrd Federal Building; the Robert C. Byrd Drive; the Robert C. Byrd Hilltop Office Complex; the Robert C. Byrd Library; the Robert C. Byrd Learning Resource Center; the Robert C. Byrd Rural Health Center; Robert C. Byrd High School; and the Robert C. Byrd Intermodal Transportation Center (a parking garage).
Yes, we mustn't forget that one. I walked by it the other day and noticed how really shabby it looks. Apparently, der Grand Kleagle hasn't appropriated any money for paint.
bump
I think there are even a couple of outhouses named after Byrddroppings......
I subscribe to my relatives WV Lincoln County newspaper. Saw that Lloyd Jackson lost the primary. That was good news for all of West Virginians. However, I can't quite understand someting. Lincoln County's schools have been taken over by the state. There hasn't been nor is there any industry in the Lincoln County, and the Jackson family controls the Lincoln County demoncRAT politics. The County doesn't have any higher education facilities (like a community college). The County doesn't even have a hospital. The County is rural in every sense of the word. Knowing the poverty and depressed conditions of the county, where does Lloyd Jackson get from his own pocket donating over $1 million to his own campaign? I didn't think that much money (unless it's under the table) flowed from personal coffers. Makes a person wonder.
After visiting with relatives in Lincoln County and constantly hearing about how Byrd is such "a good ole boy", my relatives still have that huge metal barrel that an outhouse used to be atop of years ago, before they installed inhouse bathroom facilities. I formerly hereby name that large poop barrel the "Byrd Barrel". ;) hehehehe!
Grrrr.
This is great! I shall have to pay a visit to that building. Tickles me that something is named after Reagan instead of Ole Byrd.
Hummmmm. I wonder if he would like to fund the "Robert C. Byrd Art Center? I don't mind if he will get me the money for my project. I'll call it anything he wants me to.
We want to invite everyone who can join us to be present at our ceremonies tomorrow (Thursday, June 10) at 2 p.m. as we christen our new headquarters "The Ronald Reagan Building -- Headquarters of the West Virginia Republican Party." We are located at 5019 MacCorkle Ave. SW in South Charleston. We will serve refreshments immediately following the ceremonies. (WVGOP email)
