Eat your heart out PHONE BOOK TOMMY.No money for you.
Take pity on me and translate that, would you? :)
Once the doors were opened to world trade, they can never be shut again. Much like Pandora's box.
The plus side of this story is that even though the planes weren't built in USA, there will be more jobs created for Pilots and other support staff/crew. Given, most of these jobs won't be as high paying, but Jet Blue is a successfull airline that hires many personel in all kinds of positions (i.e. MIS, business execs, marketing, maintenance and attendnants).
I'm not really a proponent of world trade. But that is the way it is, and we either learn how to successfully master the game......or we FAIL. Jet Blue and SouthWest have changed to fit the new business models that succeed. Meanwhile the old school carriers continue to loose money and be subsidized by the Feds. They will become the Amtraak of the 21st century.
Airbus also gave them a nice warranty and repair deal on the planes, plus the airbus 320 is supposed to be better than the 737 though I have never flown on a 320, anything has to be better than the cramped 737.
Screw Boeing. I live in Puget Sound, and I used to be a subcontractor for Boeing making parts for the 777s engines.
Now, Airbus makes more of its' components here in the US than Boeing does, as Boeing is now merely an assembler of parts made in other nations. They deserve what they get. Pretty soon, they'll be farming out all of their defense work to China just as they do aircraft parts. Boeing is the TRAITOR here, not Airbus customers.
The truth is hard to swallow, isn't it?
Boeing used to be a great company that made the best planes and competed worldwide with no problems. They were our biggest exporter for many years.
No longer. They have really gone down the tubes.
The benefits are greater than you mentioned. Since I can fly round trip to NYC for less than 90 bucks my family and I visit more often. That helps the hotels, restaurants, museums and the rest of the tourism industry. Multiply that by thousands and you see what the benefits of low cost air travel are. Perhaps it hurts Boeing but it helps innumerable other businesses.
I hope JetBlue picks up the pieces of US Air when they die here in Pittsburgh no matter what they fly.
Boeing's machinists did them in. How much profit must that company make just for payroll?
They're coming this fall to Columbus. I can't wait.
I've found them to be comparable, but the 737-700 and -800 series are (IMHO) far superior to Airbus.
didn't these guys used to be valujet?
No. Most low-fare airlines (like ValuJet) would get 10-15 year old airplanes and fly them around. JetBlue started with a big pile of cash and bought new planes (all AirBus 320s) so less maintenence is required (since they're new planes) and maintenence/training costs are lower (since only 1 or 2 models of plane to service).
