They should be allowed to speak. If you recall, Clinton did a good and respectful job at Nixon's funeral.
He was the sitting president when Nixon died. Having the sitting president speak at a former president's funeral is par for the course. But I know of no precedent that requires every surviving former president to speak at a former president's funeral.
Clinton was the sitting president at the time of Nixon's death. It was appropriate for him to speak then. He is not the sitting president now.
I don't know. I could see Carter, but Clinton campaigned for eight plus year on un-doing the Reagan revolution. Seems a little inappropriate to me.
He was President when Nixon died. It was appropriate for him to speak then.
There is no reason for him or Carter to speak. George W. is the present Commander in Chief, and George H.W. served as V.P. under President Reagan and succeeded him to the White House. As far as all of this is concerned, The Gipper planned his own funeral and church service years ago. If that's the way he wanted it, that's the way it should be and his wishes should be respected by everyone.
And besides, knowing Clinton, he'll probably deliver his own eulogy when he dies.
You must be thrilled that a "top clinton source" agrees with you.
Let me add another point.
While President, Ronald Reagan always wore his suit coat when in the Oval Office, out of respect for the Presidency.
Clinton got oral sex in the same room.
Still think he should be allowed to speak?
I heartily disagree. Not only does the Impeached Rapist's "me, me, me, me!!" response show his complete lack of class, but neither Clinton nor any other Democrat has a say in this Republican President's funeral.
If it were a partisan event this corrupt, disbarred, impeached, draft-dodging, woman-abusing, pathologically lying rapist would not even be allowed in the District of Columbia.
On a side note, I do fear for the National Cathedral's structural integrity should it indeed be struck by a massive lightning bolt when x42 stains its doorway.
Look Here
I'm at a loss for words.
No. No. A thousand times NO. Ugh!!!
Sorry, it's Nancy's call. They were not his personal friends. GHW Bush most certainly was and GW Bush is the current President, and probably was a personal friend as well, at least through his father.
Not surprising that Clinton would have good things to say about Nixon, aside from their politics and sexual proclivities, they were a lot alike.

I'm too lazy to do the html...but if you read this...George HW Bush NOR Gerald Ford spoke at Nixon's funeral. Clinton did simply because he was the sitting president.
Clinton was president at the time. Its Protocal. Ford didn't get to speak as I recall. I can just imagine a speech by Clinton:
"You know we're here today out of respect for one of this country's greatest Presidents! But believe it or not, I'm not going to talk about me. I mean even thought the stock market was at all time highs under me, and there were more jobs under my administration, I'm here to talk about Reagan."
The funeral PLAN is made up by the REAGAN FAMILY - not the Bush family. The Reagan family chooses who will speak - not the Bush admin.
Besides, the Carters and Clintons have never, ever had a kind word for Reagan and I believe Nancy did not want them to be FAKING kind words at her husband's funeral.
Besides, bi-partisan to the democrats means "do it our way or else". They can take along walk off a short pier. If Clinton's unhappy .. I'm happy!
Go to hell
Birds of a feather flock together.
They should NOT be allowed to speak. FRIENDS usually speak at funerals. Carter and clinton have done nothing but trash President Reagan so why would Nancy or the children give him statue, by allowing him to speak. After all, he doesn't want to because he cares--he wants to, in order to grandstand and feel important for a few moments.
<< They should be allowed to speak. If you recall, Cli'ton did a good and respectful job at Nixon's funeral. >>
A 10 or 15-minutes-long projectile vomiting of definitive insincerity and abject hypocrisy = "good and respectful job," eh?
Veddy interesting ....
For my money I look forward to the lying, looting, thieving, mass-murdering, serial-raping traitor, Bubbah Blthe-KKKli'toon, doing his next public spewing at the the traitor, Bubbah "Havana" KKKahtah's, funeral.
Or vice versa. Either way will do.
Blessings -- Brian
whoa, do you realize you used the words 'good' and 'respectful' in the same sentence with the name Clinton!?
