Netscape is the one that tried charging for its browser :-)

I use Netscape on my Mac OS 9.2 computer. Vastly superior to IE.

You forgot to point out that another version of their browser was called "Phoenix". Which means that they also promote a reincarnation cult and probably Zoroastrianism.

Actually, the name comes from an old Company project from the sixties, run by a gentleman by the name of Colby.

I always downloaded the free version of Netscape from www.zdnet.com or www.news.com; only ever paid $4.95 shipping costs on the CD. They still charge for shipping the CD; the brower's been free for years, since MSIE overran them in market share years ago.

I still like the browser GUI and email client from Netscape, best. IE is so full of security issues, I'm afraid to use it. Plus, IE's stuff is so code-bloated and a memory hog, to boot.

The other issue I had with IE was their bookmark system: it automatically alphabetized everything, and I didn't want that. I have 17,000 bookmarks - inactive and active, and I put the frequently-used ones right up front. Since IE doesn't allow that, I use Netscape's browser.

Oh well, different strokes for different folks...

When Netscape had its IPO in 1995 they were charging $50 for the software, IIRC.

Then some communistic person started giving out a free browser :-)

Right you are: $49.95, but an older version was always available for free d/ld at those two URLs.

We used to get free copies from our local ISP, or a group of us would go in on a multi-diskette (remember the 3.5 floppies before Zip disks and CDs?) hard copy, and pass them around the office like a high school whore.

Ahhhh, the good old days.

And of course Operation Phoenix -- which means they're not really communists, they're secretly working with the CIA to assassinate communists.

Just in case you aren't a troll, you realize that you're looking at a graphic that's 2 year's old? Here's the current one: http://www.mozilla.org/images/mlogo.gif

Yes, it would be harmless. A swastika never hurt anyone. It might be offensive, or indicative of some kind of neo-Nazi plot (pinging Jack Ryan, Ben Affleck version), but the symbol itself would remain harmless.

as a hindu i know perfectly well the types of swastik. Im talking about a nazi swastika with all of the colors just like the mozilla logo is a communist star with similar colors and workers saluting it. People who have not suffered under communism will never get it.

Heh... when I see CDs from "indie" bands with Hitler on the cover, I regard that as something I should take seriously. This is one crazy world, eh? My favorite browser (9.2.2 or X) is iCab, something recommended by Steve "the Woz" Wozniak.

if the icons were neo nazi icons you wouldnt be so sarcastic would you. Unforunatley, they arent and for some reason it's cool to be a communist these days.
Aside from the fact that Mozilla is made by communists (officially, they claim that the purpose of the icons is to promote its revolutionary qualities), the use of these icons is incredibly offensive to the millions who have been slaughtered by communism. Or do you think communism is ok?

no you dont seem to understand communism. Yes communists slaughtered tens of millions for dissent, but my point is that COMMUNISM as an ideology is responsible for far me. Look at communist ideas like Great Leap Forward, the cultural revolution , year zero/killing fields , etc etc. These massacres killed far more than Hitler ever did. These people were not political opponents but people living under communism. Your example of vietnam is a bad one because democratic principles did not kill people.
Do you understand the difference. I am talking about an evil idea and you are talking about evil people. Communism is an idea which kills people and also enables leaders to kill even more.

as for asking you if you think communism is ok, that was not an attack, it was a real question. if you do, i have no need to continute talking to you.

Finally about communism the idea there is this

What do you think? does " Work and there will be flour, sit cross armed and there will be no flour" sounds like communism?

Sorry, but I have to call BS on this one. I always considered giant, fire-breathing megalizards to be more libertarian or even democratic than communist in philosophy. There has NEVER been a recorded instance of a megalizard ravaging Tokyo unless it was attacked first (Japanese nuclear testing threatening its environment, etc.). Further, while communism encourages a privileged uberclass which holds all the power and authority, megalizards simply destroy everything in sight without even a hint of favoritism. Even the most recognizable star of the megalizards, Godzilla, lives in the same neighborhood as the Gameras and Megalons of the world - egalitarianism in action. You never see a megalizard living in a dacha (or even a nice bungalow in the Hamptons) or riding around in a Zil limousine paid for with the sweat of the working classes.

Yeah, me too. I kind of like the artwork myself, sort of a throwback to the Cold War. I know "Adult Swim" has done the same type of artwork for the "Sealab 2021" DVD set that features a Lenin looking type guy in the ad done in the same type of artwork.
