In Texas and elsewhere, conservative Democrats elected LBJ. They were horrified at the result, and that is part of what forced them to reconcile their party with their ideology.

I hate LBJ as the big-government author of the War on Poverty, repurcussions of which are still hurting us. On the other hand, I will give LBJ that he forced through the Civil Rights Act. Some of that conservative Democrat horror was that result. Thankfully, the Republican party did not become the anti-Civil Rights party.

you'll note that the media doesn't attack the DIMocRATS for having a KKK lifemember in their US Senate delegation- byrd gets a PASS because he's a DIM.

can you imagine what the leftist media wouls say if we were unlucky enough to have him in OUR party????? wouldn't be pretty.
