Although the Reagan Library/ Ronald Reagan Memorial online site has not yet updated details regarding official Memorial Service times, KNBC Los Angeles aired a live news conference at noon. Joanne Drake, director of the Reagan Library gave details of this week's schedule.
Today, Sunday June 6, 2004 - No Public Memorial event scheduled.
Monday June 7, 2004 - Public invited to Reagan Library in Simi Valley to pay last respects. Public can at park at Moorpark College and take shuttle buses to the Library.
Public access continues through evening (?) and until early Tuesday. President Reagan will be flown from Pt. Mgu Naval Base to Andrew's Air Force Base on Tuesday.
"Reagan's funeral will take place Friday at 11:30 a.m. EST at the National Cathedral in Washington, officials said Sunday." (KNBC)
This is a rough draft of the news conference. From Ms. Drake's statements, I had assumed that the details would already be posted on the Reagan Memorial online site.
The Reagan Library staff have been working hard for these past two days answering phone calls and handling an overload of press and citizen's inquiries, all while lending support to Mrs. Reagan and family members during their grief process.
Word has it that very organized plans for all of this were made a long time ago.
Details of times and further updates throughout the day.
God Bless President Ronald Reagan and God Bless America!
If you know of any Southern California Freepers, please refer them here, and to the California locale section too.
That's what I was wondering, it sounded like people will be allowed in the library later than 5:00, so I was curious about how to get back to the College :). Will keep watching for more info.
Thanks.
From what I can gather ferry to the Library will be until 5 pm however ferry back to the college will continue after 5 pm to get everyone back to their cars etc.
"As part of the official State events, President Ronald Wilson Reagan will lie in repose at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library beginning at 12:00 noon on Monday, June 7th through 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8th.
Shuttles will run continuously to the Reagan Library beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 7 and ending at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8."
I was confused as well by the schedule of President Reagan lying in repose at the library, the times of public viewing and the shuttle bus schedule.
Since the final time for shuttle bus transport ends at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, I am assuming that the public will have been safely returned to the Moorpark College parking lot by then.
Hope this helps.

Thanks much. The original version I printed of the schedule did not give the date that the shuttle service ended, just the time. Your post clears up the confusion!

From Simi Valley and the San Fernando Valley/Los Angeles area:
Take the 118 Freeway west to the first exit in Moorpark, Collins Drive. Turn right onto Collins. Turn right at the traffic light onto Campus Road.
From the 101 Ventura Freeway:
Take the 101 Freeway to the 23 Freeway. Exit Collins Drive in Moorpark. Turn left onto Collins. Stay on Collins until the second traffic light, Campus Road. Turn right onto Campus Road."
bd476's Personal Opinion and Note:
Northbound traffic through Los Angeles or from San Diego County and Orange County is normally jammed Monday mornings beginning at 7:30 a.m.
With the motorcade leaving the Santa Monica funeral home at 10:00 a.m., one can expect the normal northbound routes to be completely at a standstill by 9:00 a.m. no matter if the motorcade takes alternate routes, such as surface streets.
Leave early, and plan on long delays.
Also, listen to Jim Thornton on 1070 KNX-AM Radio for accurate up-to-date reporting on this very important day. He's been doing morning traffic reports on KNX for a long time and he's one heckuva nice guy.

The internment is listed as a private ceremony at the Reagan Library beginning at 6:15 p.m. Friday June 11, 2004.
If visitors are still at the Reagan Library after 5:00 p.m., maybe the assumption is that the shuttle buses will continue transporting people from the viewing, yet conclude ferrying people to the Library at 5:00 p.m.
First of all, bd476, thanks for the pings. Very much appreciated. I have some reading to catch up on -- unavoidably away from FR for almost all of late morning until now.
I just spoke to the Media Contact number -- 805-522-1502 -- at the Library. The gentleman told me that the shuttle busses will run continuously, throughout Monday night, until the Lying in Repose is concluded on Tuesday evening at 6PM.
Thanks for the clarification and all the details in this thread. I am planning to go to the library tomorrow after work. I am considering leaving the office early to go.
I live in Burbank.
Parking at Moorpark Community College: Opens at 6:00 a.m.,
Shuttle buses: Begin shuttling at 11:00 a.m. from Moorpark College,
and the
Reagan Library: Opens to the public at 12:00 p.m.
Perhaps waiting until early afternoon would mean avoiding the Monday morning traffic nightmare, then again, the lines at the Library are going to be ridiculously long in either case.
Also, after listening to NBC coverage, I'm now a bit concerned about security.
Sometimes too much information...
bd476: I'm sure security will be quite good around there. I don't know if you've been at the library but I'm sure there will be certain elements out in the brush keeping an eye on things. Plus flyovers in choppers (I've been noticing a few more lite planes and helicopters than usualy flying over head from the San Fernando Valley, east and west. I don't think they're all "news choppers".)
Well, I have a problem with prolonged standing and after speaking with the fellow at the Media office after I made that last post, he's estimating that standing in line for the busses at Moorpark, standing in line at the library, and then waiting for a shuttle back, might involve several hours of standing and/or shuffling.
Also, years back we used to have a shuttle bus from Simi to Moorpark -- I used it while taking a few classes there about 6 years ago. Seeing I can't drive, and my wife isn't feeling well enough at the present time to spend time driving me there and then picking me up, if I can't ascertain if that shuttle to Moorpark is still running, I just may not make it even to the Freepermobile!!, which is something I'd like to do also -- give me a chance to finally meet some of the fine folks here.
I'll have to see how it goes ... play it by ear. I'm going to contact the Simi bus service in the AM to see if there is a shuttle from Simi to Moorpark. If there is, I'll post it here as it might be a break for some folks to be able to park directly in Simi and avoid the parking crush which may rear it's head at Moorpark.
find later bump
