Did the New York Times put President Reagan and a horse side by side?

The Boston Globe has pretty much the same front page as the Times.

Without excusing the Times too much, it's interesting to see what late-beaking news does to page makeup. Out here (1000 miles from New York), I just brought in my Sunday Times (which obviously went to press before RR's death), and you can see how they rearranged to page on the fly. The prison story was the right-hand column top lead, and the cancer story was the big left story. They got squeezed, and a "US dead soldier pix" was cut. The wedding story was a big part of the bottom fold and was squeezed down to a tiny pix. In fact, seeing the pre-rr death, it's amazing how dull the news was as of 3 PM. They probably could have cut it all, but for them they did an OK job.

Our local rag led only with "Optimism, Enthusiasm" with nothing at all about policy until graf 6!

And the Detroit paper is probably the closest to what we would like to see ("US followed optimist, patriot"). God Bless Reagan.

At least they have the horse going towards his picture.

Given the wont of the Slimes, they could have printed it reversed.

I went out this morning and bought the papers. I swear to God his picture was NOT on the front page.

The edition I saw at the paper store had a photo of US troops mourning over a dead comrade, above the fold. President Reagans photo was not on the front page.

Sometimes the first national edition goes to press at 3PM Saturday I think.

So that means the Sunday papers were already gone when the news broke.

The NY Times just couldn't resist getting in a prisoner abuse story above the front fold-even yesterday.
Un(censored)believable.

And the award for worst front page goes to the NY Slimes and the Fargo -Moorhead paper, which goes with a Shania Twain concert, and last calls at the local bars as the lead!

Don't worry. No one is paying attention to their tactics today. All are focused on Ronald Regan and interestingly enough, even the left are saying the true and good things about him that they refused to say or print while he was alive.

You should know that the Newseum uses the same URLs every day for each paper, so tomorrow most of the graphics in this thread will be of Monday's front pages. If you want to keep these, you'd best save them to your hard drive and maybe post a separate thread with links to your copies.
