Our local Fred Meyer store installed 4 self-checkout stations. We use them almost exclusively. Walmart just added 8 stations, but their customer base isn't quite as savvy as the Fred Meyer patrons. About half of the Walmart stations are closed at any given time. When open, they work just fine and much faster than waiting for a regular checker.
