Police seize legal gunowner

A gunowners group is protesting the seizure of a legally armed citizen in a bookstore by two police officers who responded to an anonymous caller alarmed by the weapon.

Michael Pelletier was browsing a Manchester, N.H., Barnes & Noble with his wife March 27 when a police officer, assisted by a colleague, suddenly grabbed him by the right shoulder and his holster and pushed him toward the corner of a bookcase, says Gunowners of America.

The Manchester Police Department officers, Chris Byron and David DuPont, ordered Pelletier to place his hands on his head, which he did at once, the group said.

Pelletier was carrying a pistol openly at the small of his back, which became apparent after he took off his jacket.

The officers then disarmed Pelletier and escorted him out of the store. Background checks revealed no record, but officers and detectives issued a barrage of questions about why he carries a gun and what kind of training he had, the gun group said.

When dumbasses walk into my store with open, loaded firearms in the small of their back, I'm at a greater risk of being robbed by a criminal who takes advantage of the bafoon walking around with the loaded weapon in the small of his back. Hope that was'nt too confusing for you "thar tex";lol

Not that anyone is constitutionally or, depending on the state, lawfully obligated to comply, but do you have signs posted indicating that firearms are prohibited?

In either case, yes or no, please post the name and address of your business. Call me another freeper dimwitted moron, but if you are the only one allowed to have a firearm, I definitely want to avoid being a statistic. Fregards,

The SW40 is nice. 180 grn semi's do some damage.

Lighter than .45 stopping power a 4 inch dia tree from 20 feet and while it did not go all the way through, it split the other side with the concussion. It definitely has power.

Melas - I was grabbed from behind while perusing a book in the SciFi section of the store, told to put my hands on my head, disarmed, and escorted out of the store by two officers, two detectives, and a sergeant, and subjected to various arrogant, condescending lectures about the practice of carrying a firearm for self-defense for about 10-15 minutes until my firearm was returned to me, which they urged me not to reload and to place in my car.

So more guns in the hands of the law abiding means more crime?

Tell that to the military, our police forces, and all those disarmed people in Washington DC. What you advocate is akin to the Sheriff having all the guns, but then his deputies walk around un-armed.

You REALLY need a remedial education...

"Regardless, who had his hands on the gun, the owner or someone else?"

So what is your point? Should American's give up their Constitutional right to have guns? Unfortuately, WAAAAYY to many people, are so misinformed about what being legally armed, means and are so quick to jump on the "ban them all" bandwagon. Why don't you do a little research yourself and see the actual statistics on armed citizens versus the "please save me" crowd. Who do you think is safer?

What's the problem?

Would you have such a cavalier attitude if you were shoved around by the cops?

Just because you have the right to do something doesn't make it the right thing to do.

If you're going to carry, do it in an intelligent manner.

Actually I am for more armed folk, but not imbicils walking around the local mall with guns in open sight, in the small of their back, or hayseeds walking into an establishment with Rugar Viquero's six guns on their hip. Concealment is the way to go, if shopping Mall "A" has a policy allowing any moron to walk around with a loaded, open firearm, and Mall "B" does'nt , guess where most folk are going to allow their kids to hang out on a Saturday afternoon. Again I must explain the bleeding obvious to the dim witted.

Your confused, I would not allow some dumbass in my store WITH AN OPEN , LOADED WEAPON, concealed is fine, because those of us who carry concealed are not some mental case, who must prove to all around them, that they hold the upper hand, and are not to be F***ed with. Which is the case , with the idiots on this thread insisting they be allowed to open carry in a retail establishment, again these are the fools who do damage to the rights of RESPONSABLE gun carriers such as myself.

Could be worse, some nutjob could have unarmed you, and squeezed a round off in your ear. Grow up, keep your weapon concealed, and stop whining.

Assuming everyone who would be carrying is a law abiding responsible adult, what would be the difference? Are you or your kids traumatized by the sight of a firearm?

You've heard of the parable of the blind men trying to describe an elephant to each other that they have never seen? One describes a rope. Another a snake. Another a tree.

You are such a hoplophobe that you can't even see that the very thing you are so damn afraid of is the very last thing in the world you should be afraid of.

Cops and security guards are already walking around fully armed in full view of the public with no one panicking. With enough of the Joe Ordinary citizens doing the same, there would be exactly the same reaction. None. Make nice holsters a fashion statement again.

FSCK ass back-wards attitudes from wimps like yourself.

Be sure to put a sign to that effect out front so those of us who prefer to not make ourselves easy targets for criminals can avoid your establishment.

Grow up, keep your weapon concealed, and stop whining.

I'll be sure to pass these wise words of yours off to every law enforcement officer that I know of.

What was your businesses address again?

Patrons know what a "cops, and security guards", are, they don't know what to make of some civilian, in their midst, with an open, loaded, firearm....Another gem for the genuine stupid!

Most people are made uneasy by the sight of a citizen carrying open, that's why the vast majority of states do not allow open carry, unlike the bohunks in N.H.

Yes, I understand that. However, that's all the more reason to make it more common as opposed to continuing to treat firearms like they are the boogie man. When I ship any of my firearms anywhere, I use UPS. The first time I walked into their office with a case and told them I wanted to ship a firearm, they looked at me like I was a martian. When I pulled it out of the case I thought everyone there was going to faint or run for cover. Now they barely even pay attention to me or the weapon. I personally feel everyone has a responsibility to learn how to protect themselves to the best of their ability. In most cases that means learning how to use firearms safely and responsibly. People who do that don't crap in their pants at the sight of a firearm. As to anyone that does, that's their problem and I don't believe in pandering to it.

Sorry, I just can't see a mall full of Twenty somethings, walking around with open loaded arms as a good thing, especially if they are wearing their head gear in the wrong position, I.E. gangbangers. Speaking of such, with everyone armed, how are law enforcement to know who is legally armed, and who are not?....white Oakland Raiders caps, and black Oakland Raiders caps? Do you really think open carry as opposed to concealed is a better way??????, when Law enforcement will challenge you at every turn to prove your carrying in a legal fashion? I say , stay concealed, and forget the hassles.
