They forget Gorbachev came to power for the USSR to counter Reagan's charm. (remember the charm offensive) They assume the USSR voluntarily collapsed and released their satelite nations. Poland won its freedom by random chance? They ignore Rekyvick, the Pershing II missiles in Germany.

If Gorbachev comes to the service, who will the American left honor more ?
Thank God for Newt Gingrich, he is on the phone right now talking on C-Span. Hopefully, he will counter the left that has gone wild with nasty remarks at at time like this, may they be shamed.
If Gorbachev comes, the left will hope its a sign the USSR was just hiding from Reagan and will now be comming back.
Gorbachev has been trying to rehabilitate communism via the envirowacko group. I don't believe it would be right for him to be there.

That was my first year to do so as well. In my home state, if you didn't write in a party affiliation (I stupidly did not), they automatically registered you as a dem. So, when the primaries came around, I could only vote as a dem. I voted for Kennedy against Carter. Then I voted for Reagan in the general. Four years later, I was able to vote for Reagan in the primaries.
Does anyone know if it is true an episcopal priest is going to preside over the DC funeral?
If I hear one more media type say, "We need stem cell research because Nancy wants it," I'm going to go postal.
The union activists are out in force too. They are bitter over teh fact that Unions have faded in importance. There were even a few quips about the air traffic controllers. The unions did not expect reagan to DO what he said he would do.

Mr. President, your defeat of the Soviet Union and your determination to rein in our own government forcing it to live within the constraints of the Constitution and within the God given rights outlined in the Declaration of Independence set the stage for an American Renaissance. That renaissance has been short circuited and is now threatened by a looming socialistic catastrophe that lies just over the horizon when the baby boomers become eligible for Social Security and Medicare. Socialism and freedom are incompatible.

America's patriots purchased our freedom with their blood. President Reagan also warned us of the consequences of not making the correct choices. What choice are you going to make? Freedom or socialism? Ash-heap or Renaissance?

I was listening to some of those speeches too. And the thought that kept popping into my head was "can you imagine what Pres. Reagan could have done for the GOP in the Clinton years with speeches and his eternal optimism and clear vision for the country?"
I mean I feel sure that Bush 41 and Pres. Bush 43 would have sought out his advice.
His speeches that motivated me as a teenager still inspire me today.
