In the series "Ethics in America" both Mike Wallace and Peter Jennings tell the moderator that they would probably permit a US patrol be killed in they were able to film it while escorted by the opposition army.
The series is old, from the 80s, I believe. It dealt with a hypothetical situation involving a Vietnam type scenario, but this news release by Centcom suggests that the media hasn't changed their tune.
They aren't Americans. They are "neutral."
A Marine lieutenant colonel who was also part of the series responded indignantly that he would "forget" they were Americans when they got their ass in a sling and needed to be rescued. Then he thought about it and said that he'd probably be ordered to spend the blood of his men to protect their sorry lives.
I remember that episode of "Ethics in America". The question as to whether or not to warn the hypothetical American patrol was initially put to Peter Jennings. At first he said "yes" he would try to warn the Americans "even at the risk of his own life". But old Mike Wallace gave him a dressing-down in front of the panel by reminding Peter that "he was a journalist first, and an American second". Peter changed his mind when confronted Commissar Wallace. I thought the Marine officers on the Panel were going to have a cow.
Yep, I have the video of this panel discussion where they said it. They're both repulsive snakes.
I've never seen this, but it doesn't surprise me that Mike Wallace and Peter Jennings would express this kind of heartless sentiment. I wonder if Mike Wallace's son, Chris, is of an age to have served in Vietnam?
