Your son would probably think it was the coolest thing in the world. Actually, Rush was the first concert I ever went to, Grace Under Pressure tour, Fastway opened, lol.
On another board I used to go to some girl made a comment about guys who listened to Rush and built models and I replied "hey, I used to build models while I listened to Rush!"

If it makes you feel better about my judgment on the matter, while I still feel that they cashed in on a flood cookie cutting, I feel that they were a decent band. That is, from what I have heard them play. 'One' & 'Arms Wide Open' being most prevalent on my mind.
Also, "cookie cutter" ain't necessarily a slam. A LOT of 80's bands that are no longer around were veritable cookie packaging plants, and I like them just fine. They just don't last 30 years.

Not sure what European music/groups you mean exactly, but I hear you nonetheless.
The Euro music I like beats the American stuff pretty handily. Then again I've never been into most of that aging-hippie-60's-and-70's crap. :-)

Is that John Kerry at the keyboards?

Tea Party is another in the long line of underrated bands out of Canada. There's a whole bunch. Sure people know the Hip, but it's a shame more don't know Tea Party, 13 Engines, Chixdiggit or hHead.
OTOH, 54-40 is overrated. I saw Tea Party open for them once. Took about 3 songs into their set to decide to leave.

Great band. They'll be missed. They put on one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Clean, tight, professional........charisma out the wazoo.
To: RightOnline
Maybe they've got a good live show (never saw 'em) but the hits (not always representative I know) just bored me silly. Singer has 3-note range on those songs, the songs don't build, they sound like the parts have been recorded once and then cut-and-paste through the rest of the song (something often done to save time).
As for Rush, they've shown spasms of life with some moments on Signals, Power Windows, Grace Under Pressure, but they peaked with Moving Pictures and it's been downhill ever since.
