That's a lot of punishment, but not enough, IMO.
The air waves are FREE!
No crime was committed unless the person was trying to re-sell the services - or he somehow DIRECTLY physicallt touched their equipment - If he bought itm it is HIS!
I believe in the copyright - that's why I stated "RE-SELL"
I have a close friend who is involved in prosecuting these cases for Direcr TV. They have thousands currently in the courts here in the us. They are very agressive and from the sound of it, they are not losing very many cases if any. Direct TV is using a number of different methods to gather evidence and lets just say, you have no idea how easy it has been for them to catch people and gather evidence. They are settling with people for about $2500 per card possessed and reprogrammers are getting popped far worse. These are all being pursued in Federal courts so if the accussed wants to fight it they are looking at $5-10,000 just to retain the lawyer.
Well, um.....
Just how EXACTLY do they find and capture these guys?
***nervously tugging collar***
Let me guess hire someone to drive up and down streets noting addresses of homes that have dishes on them and cross checking against address lists of paying customers.
This whole thing is ludicrous on it's face. If you don't want me to have your signal, stop beaming it at my house. Otherwise, eff you, I'll do with it as I please.
Because they plug in their phone lines into the rear of the box.It enables Directv to interrogate your descrambler while
you are out.
I was talking to some hi-level techs in Canada earlier this week - they are getting VERY upset up north...
The canadian govt is coming to the people's homes and destroying the equipment and arresting the "offenders" who have dare to watch "illegal" television shows (FOX etc.)
The canadian parliament has a direct feed from FOX sattelite - only they are mentally and morally capable to view american news.
Hello DAVE ... I suggest you go to site www.wumarkus.com and see how VERY wrong you are
DAVE?
Yeah ... I guess that educational beam from Stanford that uses the very same type of dish will have to be shut down. And all those people who bought their house with the dish already mounted (remember Directv's commericial to just leave the disk when you move ???) ... who didn't dismantle it quick enough or didn't want to leave big holes in their roofs should be sued too.
DIgital Audio Video Entertainment
What? Like a nickname for DirecTV? LOL
Sounds about as endearing as "Charlie" was for the Vietcong.
Charlie is cable tv too ... I used to design the chips in go into the access cards. DAVE tried to sue me for having equipment. My companies (a VERY large company) lawyer contacted them ... and not very nicely and they backed down fast. They are suing ANYBODY who owns smart card equipment no matter what it is used for. DICKTV does not investigate at all other than to look at some companies billing records. They sued one guy for buying a leather case from a site that sold smart card equipment. AND contrary to what some VERY uninformed poster said ... they are LOSING nearly every case. Their tactic is to try and get the person to settle by threating them with a mega lawsuit that most people cannot afford. DTV generally drops the suit if the person hires an attorney
Well first of all my name isn't Dave.
As for my friend, I believe they have a little more knowledge than you do as to the out come of the cases since they work as a clerk for one of the judges that is handling the cases. I seem to remember them also telling me that the majority of the people are settling because the evidence is so strong. My friend told me this because they knew that I have the dish, but as I told her, I pay for it, never had the nerve to steal it.
zFirst of all DAVE you could have fooled me ... as far as your "friends" ... guess again ... in fact based on what YOU have said ... YOU have NOT a clue of what you're talking about
And which states, counselor, are you licensed to practice law in? Supposedly it's also perfectly legal to print your own money in the privacy of your own basement so long as you don't actually use it.
WHAT law would I break if I painted pictures for my own use in my own home and they just happened to be copies of "legal tender"? WHY would anyone be looking?
If you really feel that way I feel terribly sorry for you that you live in a tyrannical society (at least in your own mind). You probably even think lawyers are good? (rarely, yes) and cops in black camoflague utilities with ski masks and machine guns are knocking on your door to see if your children are tucked into bed?
I pity you - me, I will die keeping fools free.
<knock, knock, knock>
Who is it?
<whisper> Hey, man, it's me, Dave, open up, I got the stuff
