While not all Baby Boomers and War Babies were susceptible to the Pied Pipers of Hippie/Yippiedom,many were and you left out one area, that was VERY influential...the music/the media. How so? Well an awful lot of music was littered with a siren song of sex and dope and rebellion.
Then, there's Doctor Spock. There have been "baby books",throughout all of the past 150 years, but NONE were as detrimental.Though he did NOT raise his own sons,in the same manner he advised everyone else to raise their progeny, just about every parent of Baby Boomers and beyond, clung to Spock's advice. He's responsible for parents spoiling an entire generation, with his "instant gratification" advice. He also said to give a child what he/she wants BEFORE the child knows that he wants it.He also was against spanking, believing that parents should just calmly "talk" to their kids, when they misbehaved.
The media made quite a big deal about Baby Boomers, from the time they began to arrive. So many bought into just how "special" they were;but they weren't and still aren't!
OTOH,it isn't the entire generation who are rancid.
As far as the music goes, you have to remember that that was BEFORE the media, including musicians, became turned towards politics in all things as they are now (well, most). I think that much of it simply reflected the times, as most art does. Some musicians didn't even buy the whole line.
If you read No One Here Gets Out Alive, it makes the point that Jim Morrison himself was quite conservative in his views on war and socialist nonsense, if not on matters pertaining to the flesh.
