It used to confound me that ANY young Americans would refuse to serve their country en masse, or shy from adventure at an age when young men typically seek it out, especially since their fathers fought the Second World War. I had to look between the lines for the answers.
Cowardice, until then, had most certainly NOT been widespread in American culture. For it to surface so rapidly and radically, there must have been deliberate hands at work, as well as unique demographic and historical factors.
