LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Vice President Dick Cheney is scheduled to speak Friday in Grand Rapids to the Police Officers Association of Michigan and accept the group's endorsement, a Bush campaign spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Cheney plans to speak at 1 p.m. EDT during the association's annual convention at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.

Cheney isn't the only Bush administration member in the state this week. Secretary of Education Rod Paige will be in Michigan Thursday to speak during the opening session of the Detroit Regional Chamber's Mackinac Policy Conference on Mackinac Island.

Bush last campaigned in Michigan on May 3 during a bus tour that took him to Niles, Kalamazoo and Sterling Heights.

Cheney's last visit to Michigan came a year ago when he attended a June 30 Bush-Cheney '04 fund-raiser in Grand Rapids, campaign spokeswoman Merrill Smith said.

This counters Kerry's cop endorsement.

The FOP is the big one.

I see the AP just can't use the words "police union endorses Bush-Cheney."

Well, that's a block from my office and also right in the middle of a huge Arts Festival. It should be a complete, but welcome zoo. I saw the President in Kalamazoo but this event doesn't look open to the general public.

Great! We had dinner one evening at the Grand Hotel two (three?) years ago when Vice President Cheney was attending a birthday celebration in the hotel. The Secret Service did a good job of not turning it into too much of a zoo. Of course, they were in friendly territory.

Yes, first weekend of June. I think it officially opens Friday at noon, but I'm not certain.
