WASHINGTON -- Go back three spaces, Mr. Monopoly. There's a new millionaire on the board - John Kerry.
In "Kerryopoly," the Republican National Committee roasts the Democratic presidential candidate with an online satire of his well-heeled lifestyle.
Players begin with just $40,000 in Kerryopoly money, the average national household income. "After a few trips around the board, most players will be millions of dollars in debt, proving that John Kerry's lifestyle is out of reach and out of sync with most Americans," RNC communications director Jim Dyke said in a statement.
Three leading Republicans in the federal government - President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee - are multimillionaires. Asked Tuesday if their lifestyles also were out of reach of most Americans, RNC spokeswoman Christine Iverson responded "no" but declined to elaborate.
On the RNC Web site at gop.com, players can move around a Monopoly-style board filled with spaces denoting Kerry properties instead of traditional Atlantic City landmarks like Boardwalk and Park Place.
Kerryopoly players who land on Beacon Hill, where Kerry owns a house, pay $6.9 million. Land on Scaramouche, the Kerry yacht named after a fictional French swashbuckler, and pay $700,000.
Need something less pricey? One spot is just $1,000 - the amount, the RNC says, Kerry paid for a haircut.
The site features a photo of Kerry with a top hat, recalling the mustachioed icon Mr. Monopoly, formerly known as Rich Uncle Pennybags. "Like a lot of celebs, he had a name change," Hasbro Games spokesman Mark Morris said.
The game maker has not sanctioned or endorsed the GOP's waggish take on its best-selling board game.
I can't believe it. What's happening to greedy Fox News? I first tried to post this same story from the Fox News site, but apparently they've complained, just like the liberal Washington Post, about FReepers posting articles. So I had to get the same AP story from somewhere else. Shame on Fox. Their hubris grows by the month.
I don't know why they'd want to make an enemy of FreeRepublic. Maybe if we obsessed more about Laci Peterson and Michael Jackson's nose, they'd like FR more.

Yeah, I guess they didn't mention gigolo stuff. But they should have. There should be a "find rich widow" space, where you have to pick up a card and find out who it is. "Sam Waltons' widow, gain $5 billion," or "Bill Gates dies, you comfort Mrs. Gates, gain $40 billion."
Ok, dreams over ... back to reality. Kerry is scum ...
This is very funny, but I'd be cautious about getting too cute or goofy if I were the GOP. I don't remember his name, but there as a GOP congressman from Pennsylvania who went to the floor of the House and sang a parody of the Clinton-Monica scandal set to 'Twinkle twinkle little star.' He lost in 1998, and that former GOP district has been in Dem hands since. Then there was incumbent Lauch Faircloth who ran a completely inept campaign against challenger Edwards in 1998, complete with goofy ads showing Edwards nose growing Pinochio style as it listed some of his mistruths. Faircloth lost, and now the GOP will have to worry about this potential new Clinton for the next several cycles.
Actually, this is probably not an apt comparison so I apologize, but it did bring to mind those above mentioned mistakes.
This is good stuff. The GOP definitely has a better sense of humor than the scumbags on the other side.
I think it's great as they play hippy music with each "purchase" and give facts like "in the year he gave just $175 to charity he bought himself this 8K Ducatti motorcycle."
Priceless.
(Well, there actually are prices!)
it also seems like "taxman" comes up frequently & hilarious they nailed him on the $1000 hair cut
