This definitely falls in the "no big deal" category. Whether Bush consulted or retained an attorney (no real difference) is immaterial. He has a right to seek legal counsel from someone that he KNOWS cannot be forced to disclose their communications. It's just the smart thing to do.

The only people who have their knickers in a twist about this are 1) the Bush haters or 2) the lawyer haters (the "why does anyone need a lawyer if they haven't done anything wrong?" crowd). To me, this is MUCH ado about nothing.

Now, if you told me that the lawyer he had consulted was Larry Klayman .....

So Bush and Rove have figured out that the Kerry Klown is going to try to have his Small Beer Bit-Player, Joe Wilson, bon-vivant and suave former ambassador, sue the President and claim that Bush and Rove outed his wife! He's going to try to do this in late October, too.

Of course, the real truth is that one of Cheney's people probably was thinking with his gonads and outed Plame. Not that it mattered, btw. Plame was outed by Aldrich Ames years ago. Ivan has known about her for at least that long. She was brought back from Eurotrashland to the U.S. to serve as an analyst because Ames sold her name to Boris and Natasha for relative chicken feed.

Anyhoo, if another scandal starts dragging on Bush, look for Cheney to want to spend time with the grandkids and Bush to turn to his secret weapon, Condi Rice.

Wilson has suggested in a book that the leaker was Lewis "Scooter" Libby, chief of staff to Vice President Cheney. But Wilson's book, "The Politics of Truth," give no conclusive evidence for the claim. The White House denies the claim and accuses Wilson of seeking to bolster the campaign of Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites), for whom he has acted as a foreign policy adviser. Wilson also said it's possible the leak came from Elliott Abrams, a figure in the Reagan administration Iran-Contra affair and now a member of Bush's National Security Council. And Karl Rove, Bush's chief political adviser, may have circulated information about Wilson and Plame "in administration and neoconservative circles" even if Rove was not himself the leaker, Wilson writes. Another possibility is that two lower-level officials in Cheney's office — John Hannah or David Wurmser — leaked Plame's identity at the behest of higher-ups "to keep their fingerprints off the crime," Wilson speculates.
