Let's try to keep some perspective folks.

Special Report with Brit Hume surpassed Larry King Live to claim the number four spot with 1,149,000 viewers.

Meanwhile:
NBC's "Nightly News" averaged 9.08 million viewers
ABC's "World News Tonight" 8.79 million viewers
CBS' "Evening News" 6.97 million viewers

A little more perspective: 280,000,000 or so Americans, 30,000,000 viewers among FNC, CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNBC, etc. news programs. Last I heard, 20,000,000 people listen to Rush and Hannity during a given week.

FNC has achieved dominance in the cable news network because they have a monopoly on the conservative viewpoint (by the choice of their competition, not by any nefarious means). My estimate is that we conservatives are 30% to 50% of the news market. I suspect FNC could become the number 1 broadcast news network if they would put on a 30 minute version of Britt Hume's show at 6:30 pm EST. The conservative market is lucrative and waiting to be addressed. That is the lesson of FNC.
