Greenpeace: EU needs facts not science fiction

Environmentalists have warned against the ‘anti-science’ basis of a Hollywood blockbuster on climate change disaster.

‘The Day After Tomorrow” – released in Europe this week – shows Armageddon style disaster as New York is destroyed by the effects of melting ice caps.

“Many events in the film violate basic physical laws,” said Mahi Sideridou of Greenpeace.

“It is completely over the top - a full blown ice age will not happen.”

She welcomed the film because it “raises awareness” of environmental concerns, but said there was a risk of its feeding into anti-Green propaganda.

“We have to be careful not to fuel the sceptics into claiming we actually believe this – we must be really clear that this is science fiction,” she said.

To this end Greenpeace have launched a Day After Tomorrow-style website – with spoof trailer – on the reality of climate change (see link on right).

“We don’t need science fiction – we have the facts.”

Brussels however has given a warmer welcome to the film.

“I hope this is a film that could trigger discussion amongst people who go to see the film," said environment commissioner Margot Wallström.

“What can citizens do in the fight against climate change? Even small changes can make a difference.”

But she added that “Of course everybody knows this is based on fiction – things do not happen as they do in the film.”

And the European Green party argues an EU vote for environmentalism is a good safeguard against ‘Day After Tomorrow’ disaster scenarios.

“For the day after tomorrow, vote against climate change” has now become a Green party slogan.

They are this week handing out leaflets on the fight against climate change outside cinemas showing the Hollywood film.

Its really sad when the Greenpeace nutjobs won't even go along with your makebelieve movie. Face it Gore, you're a loser through and through.

Greenpeace better be careful. The french will have their commando's sink another one of their unarmed ship. It doesn't pay to be an unarmed environmentalist and tick off france.

Maybe they should invest in some BB guns, the frogs would stay the hell away from them then.

LOL! You're probably right...or surrender.

Can you image how fun that would be to see footage of the Rainbow Warrior II escorting in a couple of surrendered french naval vessels.

I Thank God every day that Gore did not get elected,
Even back in the Florida recount days, I sat glued to the TV biting nails and squirming in my recliner as the evil ones counted, counted and recounted the chads with long fingernails.

I just wish Bush and Norton would have reversed the illegal executive orders that Clinton made on his way out that grabbed so much territory for the eco-nazis and locked us out of our public lands by establishing "national monuments". Millions of acres of "OUR" land reserved for squrrels and the birds.
I am hoping with all my heart that in his second term Bush will get busy and go on the offensive against the extreme environmental terorists , like Al Gore,
Gore is like the "Bin Laden" of the eco-terrorists in my book.

I hate the eco-freaks. They are such small-minded people. Humans are a part of Nature (Earth), and climate change is a part of life on earth and inevitable.

1- “Many events in the film violate basic physical laws,” said Mahi Sideridou of Greenpeace. “It is completely over the top - a full blown ice age will not happen.”
2 - She welcomed the film because it “raises awareness” of environmental concerns, but said there was a risk of its feeding into anti-Green propaganda.

If you believe that the budget of each Hollywood film is correlated with the importance of the items of the agenda that it serves, than the question is :
-what are the items behind "The day after tomorrow" ?
