Tonight is the special election in South Dakota to fill the remainder of Bill Janklow's seat in Congress.
Most political observers seem to think that Herseth will win the special election. According to the Pierre Capitol-Journal, turn-out has been strong in that area and the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader reports many requests for absentee ballots.
The key to South Dakota is Minnehaha County (Sioux Falls). If Herseth does well there, Diedrich will need to clean up in the remainder of the state in order to win....Aberdeen, Huron, Rapid City, Watertown etc.
Any South Dakota Freepers have any gut reactions or insights as to how the race will end tonight? Hell, anyone with an opinion is fine.
BTW, if you are a South Dakota Freeper and you haven't voted yet, GO TO THE POLLS NOW!
I read yesterday that the Republican doesn't even think he can win.
Narrow loss will do, says Diedrich in S.D.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. Republican congressional hopeful Larry Diedrich is effectively conceding defeat in todays South Dakota special House election before the polling booths even open.
The former state senator dramatically ratcheted down expectations during an interview with The Hill at his campaign headquarters, saying he would be happy to lose to Democrat Stephanie Herseth by only five percentage points.

I voted. I'll be at the Victory Party tonight, and I hope to God I won't be hearing a concession speech. I've had a gut-ache all day about it.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Talk about demoralizing your own voters and workers the day before an election.
Early this morning, all five registered voters in this home went to vote for Diedrich. I've never seen so many cars in the parking lot, even at that hour. Drove by twice later in the day, and they were still very busy. A good sign, as this is strong Republican territory.
On the down side, a good friend of ours, a State Representative, was here for dinner on Sunday. His opinion was that Herseth would win. I gave him another glass of wine and told him to sit down and shut up.
It will be a very long night here in Rushmore land.
It's a terrible nailbiter. Both campaigns think it will be a margin of 1 to 2% max.
This is the first time I have seen a Candidate concede prior to the election.
He has honed his RINO credentials to a faretheewell, just in case he wins!
I guess it's true what they say about South Dakota Republicans.
They are either drunks or born losers!
Whatever, they are still a quantum leap above the knuckle-dragging neanderthal South Dakota Democrats like the little troll senator.
I truly appreciate a Freeper who can incorporate the word "faretheewell" into a post. Congrats!
5% reporting, Herseth is already building a healthy lead.
You know it is near over, when Herseth is getting boatloads more votes than the total of those that voted in the Dem primary.
BUMP....
I agree, it's pretty much thru. SD repubs are more than 40% RINO. I'm disgusted, what can I say. 3 Rats going to WA. I need to move.
Actually, the Pubbie is running close to but a bit behind Thune's percentages except in that county that has your big city in it, where the Pubbie is tanking so far, but maybe the percentages are not representative. My wild guess is that Herseth will win 52-48.
Oh my, with 12 out of 13 precints reported, in Tripp county the Pubbie is running slightly stronger then Thune. How exciting! :)
