We live in a dynamic economy. You have to overcome and adapt or you will fall. The manufacturing sector has been sliding for some time now. I believe its been 30 plus years. Nevertheless, you still invested your time and skills in to it. Why the surprise?

The good news is that the skills you learned there you can take with you to a new sector. I have hard time believing that you can't find a job with your background. Unemployment is pretty low so you should not have trouble finding a job.
