Had I moved, I would have missed the out of the blue call that lead to my most lucrative contract, one that may segue into a full time job.

Wonderful!! Congratulations!

It took over year.

Not quite as wonderful, but good things often come to those who wait and are patient.

A year I spent on small jobs and pavement pounding.

Still less wonderful, but perhaps character building.

A year I was able to spend with my children.

Very wonderful!

(my ex won't move).

Aahh, this explains your diligence. You indeed have your priorities in order.

You don't know his entire situation, yet you feel qualified to second guess his decisions.

Sorry if I offended you or him. Alas, that is a classic drawback in communication theory. There is an inverse relationship between the time delta and the length of the completed message. Sometimes you act on what you think is a complete message, thought, or idea, only to find out that you did not have the complete picture. A thousand apologies if I missed the mark.

It reminds me of a liberal, always able to make better decisions on how other people should be running their lives...

Yikes! Never been accused of that. My liberal friends will chuckle at that comment, as I am know around these parts as a conservative's conservative.

FWIW, I didn't say you were a liberal, just that one small facet of one of your post reminded me of an attitude a liberal might have.

At least your liberal friends will get a chuckle. (If you tell them)...
