REDWOOD CITY -- Players in People vs. Peterson have hammered out ground rules on dozens of issues leading to today's opening statements, but have not touched a potentially explosive question: What to do with the families?
Scott and Laci Peterson's relatives regularly attended most proceedings up until jury selection. But many could be called as witnesses and, as such, normally would be excluded from the double-murder trial........

Two death penalty trials cross paths
Two death penalty trials cross paths
By Michelle Durand, Daily Journal Staff
This morning, at precisely the same time, one capital murder trial ends while another begins at the Redwood City courthouse.
Scott Peterson, accused of killing his wife Laci, and confessed murderer Seti Scanlan have little in common aside from being two death penalty defendants in the same county, in courtrooms down the hall from each other. But, depending on the juries ultimate decisions, both could also end up together on San Quentins death row.
Opening statements begin at 9 a.m. in Petersons trial, thought to be the states most publicized case since the O.J. Simpson murder trial..........

May 30, 2004 -- HIS name was Conner. As Scott Peterson heads to his murder trial, a parallel battle is being waged in the California courtroom by the case's littlest victim.
Peterson's son, known as Conner - a boy killed even before he was born - is fighting for the right to be called a person.
Or is he a fetus?
Even before the trial kicks off, the confounding case against Peterson, charged with murdering his eight-months-pregnant wife, Laci, and the soon-to-be-born baby she carried, has managed to turn virtually everyone in America into a card-carrying hypocrite. ........

There's no confession, no eyewitness and, so far, no weapon.
But prosecutors contend they have enough circumstantial evidence to send Scott Peterson to San Quentin's death chamber for allegedly murdering his wife, Laci, and the couple's unborn child. Opening statements in the trial are to begin today.

Lawyers polish their game plans

AFTER police arrested Scott Peterson in San Diego County in April 2003, an angry mob greeted him back in Modesto, carrying signs accusing the fertilizer salesman of killing his wife, Laci Peterson, and their unborn child. During the 31/2 months between Laci's disappearance on Christmas Eve 2002 and the grisly discovery of the bodies on the shores of San Francisco Bay, a Fresno massage therapist and single mother named Amber Frey held a press conference.......

She from FOX? I RARELYwatch fox. Unless something special is on.
I heard that, I think tonight on Dateline NBC that they have some story on Scotty? Tried to find details, so far, nothing.....
That "Happy Hubby" article is excellent!
"Now we see that there is information from the doctor(s) that backs this up."
I think this is rather important, don't you? Laci would have never risked Connor's health by not following the physician's advise. Also, what caring, concerned husband would let his wife go for a walk in her condition, particularly when the dr. said not to?
Excerpt:
"Close-up elicits gasps from jurors
The jury seemed largely unfazed by the photos until Distaso showed a close-up of Conner's remains with a length of plastic tape looped around the neck and knotted in an almost crude bow tie near his left shoulder.
There was a gasp from some as that photo was displayed. Alternate No. 2, a mother of four boys, put her hand to her mouth. Juror No. 12, a former social worker who handled child abuse cases, did the same.
Adam Stewart, an attorney representing Sharon Rocha, rubbed his hand over his face.
The conditions of the bodies are a central issue in the case. Distaso noted that Conner's remains were "significantly less decomposed than Laci's" but said the fetus was protected in its mother's womb until decomposition and tidal action released it.
He said the plastic tape was ocean debris that became entangled around the body............"
"Yep, it's beginning to look like the head was never in the Bay. Hope for splatter into the barrel of the gun."
The gun is a puzzle. At the prelim Sharon left when they brought up the gun. Don't you think there would have to be more blood evidence if he shot her? I suppose he could have shot her in the bay (in the head) - but for what purpose if she was already unconcious or dead? To attract sharks? Makes me sick to think about it.
I've seen her on CNN as well. Her husband is the Mayor of San Francisco.
He's transformed into the eager boy next door, no danger to the commonweal, provided you hide your lonely sisters from his horny grasp.
heeheee... I am sure today will be a finale to see how Geragos does!
"At the prelim Sharon left when they brought up the gun."
Good point, I had forgotten about that.
Thanks for the link, Jackie.
Yesterday, Fox had links to pdf's of actual documents. I wonder if they'll post the proceedings that way. Wouldn't THAT be a treat!?
Pinz
I can't wait to hear how many times the word "theatrics" will be thrown around the talk shows.
Willie Brown? Gag
No, no, no. Gavin Newsome.
I don't know that we have heard all of what the evidence is yet. ie: the results of the residue tests on SP's hands.
Gerilyn Merit is on MSNBC. She's from Colorado, and has been commenting a lot on Kobe trial.
I live in Antioch.
These defense attorneys, pundits, are sick! As if they have followed or really care about justice in this case, other than have their names splashed on the screens for future clients! They are full of dog meat!
Scott Peterson is on trial for his life. Yet at least three times yesterday, I saw him chuckle. Let us in on the joke, I almost yelled.
I hope Snotty keeps it up...IMO it will only hurt him.
thing I thought of when I heard the caliber, a 22 hand gun? Now, what on earth would a young vibrant man, full of raging hormones like scotty do with that type of weapon? A 45 or 38, or 9mm....but a 22?
